New achievements enabled!

We've already got a couple of achievements and badges available in the SDL Community. (read more about our achievements and badges here)
Before, you could mostly receive new achievements by earning points and leveling up in our point system.

But since we already have SDL Ideas enabled in the SDL Community for almost two years, we thought of adding more achievements!

Idea machine III - Share 25 ideas with the Community

Community Auth0 (Single-Sign-On) Integration

Today, the sign in authentication process of the SDL Community has been switched over to our single-sign-on solution (SSO). For SDL Community users, please continue to log in with your current SDL Account Credentials.

If for some reason you are unable to login to community.sdl.com or have forgotten your password, please click on: ‘Forgot password’ as shown in the screenshot below. You will then receive an email to reset your password.

After you’ve reset your password, you should be able to log in with your SDL Account email address and (new) password.

If you are still unable to login, please reach out to the SDL Community team at: community@sdl.com or visit the Community Help group for known issues (read-only, asking a question requires log in), and we will be happy to support you

SDL Community Design, Navigation and Layout refreshment

Probably you've noticed it already, we've changed and refreshed a couple of things in the Community:

New homepage design
New design and navigation structure
New design and layout product community groups/aligning groups design and layouts

The reason for refreshing the community is to make it easier for our members to find what they need in the SDL Community.
Another reason why we chose to refresh the community is to professionalize and create a new look and feel.

To explain a little more, let's go over the different topics.

New homepage design

Before we redesigned the homepage, the main part of the page was an activity stream. Here you could find the last activities that took place in the whole community. Relevant but also irrelevant information was shown on the previous homepage. We got feedback that the activity stream is not really interesting or what our members are looking for, so we took out the stream on the new homepage and recreated it on a separate Personal Activity Stream with personalized relevant information per member. (Make sure you join groups of your interest to be able to view activities there)

The second most important feature was the banner/slider on top of the page where we showcased the newest blog posts, interesting events and other up-to-date information. We're continuing this and even put a second slider/banner at the bottom of the page to showcase even more posts!

The new homepage makes it possible for people to navigate easier to the most popular groups, find important collateral and get started in our community.

New design and navigation structure

Other feedback we got from our members was that they found it difficult to find groups and had difficulties how to navigate through the website. Like other websites, our community is using a top site navigation. Via this navigation you should be able to find your desired group(s). But looking at our feedback and questions being raised in wrong forums, navigating wasn't easy enough. What we did to make it easier is renaming groups, renaming umbrella groups, restructure groups and take away the second so called 'Solutions" level. Navigating through our community should be simpler now!

New design and layout product community groups/aligning groups

The last topic on the list was redesigning the layout of the product community groups. What we wanted to create is a more aligned look and feel between our different product communities. All product community groups now have:

a top banner
a slider on the right side
view all forums
give a list of ideas
a list of useful links

Sharing Code in the SDL Community

Great news for our community members, especially the ones active in the developer areas: sharing code via the gist editor (GitHub) is now possible!
Please take a minute to read through this article to learn how to insert your code in a post on the community.

1. First you need to create a GitHub account (if you already have one, sign in)
2. Now you have to create a Gist. In your Dashboard you have a Gist menu item. Click it to create a new gist.

3. When you've completed your gist, click Create public gist.

4. Copy the share url of the new gist by clicking "Copy to clipboard".

5. When you create a new post in the SDL Community, in the rich text editor, click Insert -> Insert Image/Video/File.

6. In the From textbox select Web (URL), in the URL textbox paste the shared gist URL like in the image below.

7. After you filled in the form fields and inserted the gist link, click anywhere outside the Text area so the Gist can be inserted.
8. Click Post and your post with code from GitHub will be visible.

Share in the SDL Access Birthday Celebrations!

SDL Access Customer Portal blends online capabilities with personal interactive help. Available since June 2016, the portal assists our global enterprise customers by providing account help and answers to their questions.

We are delighted to announce we are celebrating our first birthday this year.

To thank our registered SDL Access Members, all members will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win an iPod Shuffle. We will randomly select the winner from our membership on June 30, and make an announcement in the portal on July 18.

Members who wish to opt out of the prize draw please contact us.

Ideation in the SDL Community!

We are delighted to announce that from today onwards the SDL Community is THE channel for all SDL products to log your ideas and enhancement requests!

Do you have a great idea for a feature that you’d like to see in one of the future releases of an SDL product? Simply go to the top navigation, find your product idea section and log your idea!

Ideation in the SDL Community means:

All ideas on one channel
For all products
Transparency for our community members
Direct interaction with product management

So from now on you can easily let SDL know your ideas and find out whether they and of course other community members like/agree with your idea.
You can:

Reply to other ideas
Get up-votes for your own idea
Vote for other members’ ideas

You only have to find your preferred product community to start logging ideas, which you can find in the navigation under "Ideas":

A real winner takes... nothing?

Last month we announced the winners of the Apple watch community competition.
For the internal competition we announced Daniel Brockmann as the winner of the internal prize.
We contacted him and sent him the Apple Watch as a thank you for all his valuable contributions to the SDL Community.

In the first place he was very happy to hear he was the winner and accepted the prize.
We took action and send him the watch, which was received in Germany 2 days later.
After receiving the prize, we asked him to send us a fun selfie, showing that he wears the watch.

Adn then.. something very interesting came into my mailbox a few days later:

Who's the one on the right wearing the watch?
As a community user, definitely on the Translation Productivity side of the community, you might know who that is..
Paul, our SDL Community guru!

If we can phrase Daniel Brockmann, a very sporty winner: "We decided as a team that it would be best for me to pass on the Apple Watch to the real champion in the community - i.e. Paul, as all things considered, he deserves it most".

We really love the gesture, respect Daniel! And of course lots of respect for Paul who keeps answering up to 250 forum questions every month!
