Here at RWS we try to make this community as helpful as possible. The community forum posts, answers and discussions are there in the first place to provide guidance as quickly as possible and to bring you success while using our products.

Notwithstanding that, it’s useful for us too, as from all of these instances we extract information that helps us with other parts of our business such as product development, training and/or support. Our goal is to make your voice within the community heard.

Your voice in RWS Community is for us of the utmost importance because it provides insights into your needs and desires. It’s also what sets the tone of the message you’re sending.

How many times have you heard the saying “it’s not only about the message you’re sending, but how you’re sending it?”

That’s precisely why from now on, all the posts within the RWS Community will be marked with a “Sentiment” label.

What is the “Sentiment” label in the RWS Community?

The “Sentiment” label is functionality that is designed to rate the ‘sentiment’ of a written post or reply.

It’s meant to bring a positive change within the RWS Community by making everyone more aware of how they address each other in writing when interacting with one another across the platform.

How does the “Sentiment” label work?

The labelling is done by an AI sentiment model.

Each time you answer a question or post on a forum thread, your reply will get a “Sentiment” score from 1 to 5, with 1 being the lowest score, while the 5 is the highest.

Is there a way to improve my “Sentiment” score?

Yes there is. There are two ways to do it, actually.

The first option is by previewing your “Sentiment” score right before you add the post. Before clicking the reply button that ads your answer to a question, click the “Get sentiment” button under the reply box placed on the bottom left side.

A new window will pop-up showing you the “Sentiment” score your reply has achieved.

To improve your scoring, edit the way you have phrased your reply until you get a score that you’re satisfied with.

The second option refers to when you have already hit the reply button before previewing your “Sentiment” score.

All you have to do is click on the “More” button under your reply and then click on the “Edit” button to be able to edit your reply’s text. Likewise, phrase your reply in such a way that you get a score that you’re satisfied with.

Why was the “Sentiment” label added? Was it really necessary?

Here at RWS we strive to keep our community as helpful and positive as possible. We have already talked about how important it is the way we communicate with each other. Oftentimes people get into negative situations just because they don’t express their message in a positive way.

We want to make sure that everybody here in the RWS Community feels welcomed and supported in their quest to finding a solution to their problem, which is why we introduced the “Sentiment” label.

While an experienced user might find a newbie question rather foolish, that’s not the way the newbie perceives it. So, we wanted to make sure we bring awareness to the members of our community in terms of how the way they communicate with each other since it can impact the experience they have within the community, for both themselves and the ones around them. And how better to do that, if not by “reading” the “Sentiment” a question or a forum discussion generates?

What does RWS stand for?

RWS (http://www.RWS.com) is a publicly traded company with roots in the early 90s (founded in 1992) with a strong focus on Global Information Management, and especially professional translation of Software and Documentation.

RWS is a TLA (Three Letter Acronym) for "M.H. Randall & Partners (a specialist translation company) and Woolcott & Co (a specialist patent and technical information searching company) Services

Are product communities for obtaining support from RWS?
No. Product communities are designed for peer-to-peer knowledge sharing only. Customers with a support contract can log into the Customer Gateway for urgent problems or issues.

Do I have to be registered to use the RWS Community?
Anyone can read messages in public spaces, but you must be a registered member to post a question or response. Simply click on join/sign up to register free of charge.

Are there Terms of Use?
Please see our Terms of Use, but suffice to say that spam, defamation, obscenity, and bigotry are not tolerated and perpetrators will be banned.

What is proper community etiquette?

Always be courteous; there are different levels of experience represented. Use the following guidelines:

Confidential or Proprietary Content: RWS will not publish any document that is confidential or proprietary in nature.
Questions/Discussions: When asking a question type in the "Ask a question" field in a forum or use the + New button. Provide all of the details that other members of the community need to understand your entry, including your product version, for example, RWS TMS 10.1. If you encounter a poorly worded question, provide suggestions to help the community member asking the question provide more clarity.
Documents: You can either upload a document using Insert > Insert Image/Video/File in the editor.
File: You can either upload a File using Insert > Insert Image/Video/File in the editor.
Proofreading: Use both spelling and grammar checkers (or a good proofreader) to ensure correct spelling and take a few moments to review your documents. Remember that automated spell checkers have limitations so it is important to perform a final, manual review.
References to other RWS content: Use the following guidelines when providing references to RWS documentation or knowledge base documents:
- Do not copy and paste from another document unless you use double quotes around the text and use an in-text citation.
- If you paraphrase from another document, make sure you indicate the page number where you found the information and include that document in your reference.
After receiving an answer to your question it is a Best Practice to verify the answer as correct. This enables others to find answers to their questions faster and easily also you will receive 3 points for verifying an answer.

How can I contact a moderator to report a spammer?
Please click underneath a post on More > Flag as spam/abuse to let us know of any abuse, spam, or other terms of service violation in our community.

Is the FAQ available in other languages?
Not at this time, we are working on this.

Are there communities in other languages?
Yes. We have communities in Chinese and Japanese.

How is community content organized?

Communities are a collection of spaces and sub-spaces. Often, spaces are used to organize communities into a tree-like structure so members can find the right topics more easily.
The actual communities contain sub-spaces where individual discussions take place, knowledge is shared, and the latest activity for the community can be viewed.
Discussions (or Threads) are a collection of posts for a single conversation. Threads are most commonly used to post a question and to receive responses to that question. RWS Community uses a fully-threaded format.
Other community applications with valuable content are Blogs and Wiki's, they can be found in the different sub-spaces.

What browsers are officially supported?
Our platform works with most current web browsers. Note that if you need to use Content Editor features such as cut and paste, script access to the Clipboard should not be disabled.

I have an excellent blog entry that answers a very complex user question. Can I just post a link as the answer?
Unfortunately, a link is not an answer. It’s a location of relevant and correct material to answer the question. And while the link to the blog is probably very useful, it will be flagged for review by the system moderators who are dedicated to ensuring the Community Platform is not susceptible to spam or any forms of promotion.

The best approach is always to “Answer in the Question/Discussion” and in this case, that would mean providing enough content to address the question and answer it completely--if not in absolute detail at least to the extent that it achieves content correctness. Additional resources such as links to relevant and correct material can be offered as “for more information” or further explanation, but the answer should be complete. If an external blog entry is being linked, please provide a substantive quote from the blog entry to add context for users.

What about external documentation?
The same applies to doc references. You can provide a link to the specific doc section/page. But also provide a substantive quote from the doc section being referenced. Remember that users who come to your post in the future may no longer be able to access a link if it has broken, so the quote will help "future-proof "the discussion.

Can community members include links to external sites (blog posts, documentation, personal resources) as part of their signature file?
No, per our community guidelines, you cannot include linkspam in your signature. If you would like to include personal information or a link to a website, please include it in the body of your profile. Moderators will ask that these types of promotional links be removed from posts answering questions, or they may simply remove the links with an explanation to the responder.

I have an idea about improving the RWS Community or a particular RWS Product - How can I share it?
If your idea is for improving the way the community works then please post it in the RWS Community Ideas space. If your idea relates to a particular product, please locate the appropriate product space and see if it has an "Ideas" space within it where you can post your product idea. (Please do not post product ideas in the RWS Community Ideas/Community Feedback).

The product I have an idea for, doesn't have an Idea space in it/doesn't appear to be enabled for me to create an Idea?
Not all product spaces have "Ideas" enabled within them. For an Ideas space to be enabled, it requires that we have someone within RWS who keeps an eye on the Ideas posted, to consider/action them as appropriate. Not all product spaces are actively managed by RWS staff (though we're working on it!) so we won't activate Ideas where they're going to appear to be ignored.

Operating a community in a mixed mode of employees, customers, partners and just about anybody that subscribes to us, is equally challenging online as it would be if we were all physically in the same room. We have to find the best way to serve you. Nevertheless, we already had some experiences that we would like to share with you. Some are fundamental or obvious and some might just be handy to know. By joining our community, you are adhering to these guidelines.

RWS operates across the globe. We will treat everybody with equal respect and dignity. It is of utmost importance that, above all, every individual can feel at home at our community. This requires at all times an engagement that you would reserve for your friends also if you disagree business-wise. We are all different but nobody is more or less. We believe in the power of bringing people together across the globe and the enriching experience to work globally.

We at RWS are serious about your privacy. There is a myriad of measures we have taken to secure your privacy and to make sure that others do not see what you do not want to be seen. We've done that on the technical, functional, people and process levels. However, a Community is, by definition, a Real-Time system. Good custom: No company names and company-specific information
It is a good custom not to speak about company names but focus on the knowledge required to be successful in your business. Especially check your screenshots, code dumps, attachments, etc for information that your management probably do not want you to distribute. Typically employee names, server names are something you might want to anonymize before posting. We rely on common business sense. We instruct our moderators to be vigilant and properly assist and protect all our members in their journey with RWS.

Good Custom: No pricing information or discussion
Communities should not be used to share or discuss pricing information. Moderators will intervene and protect all our member's privacy. This community is for discussion and conversation only. Please do not use this as a platform to spam members with ads or unrelated content. Attacks, foul language, and all other rude behavior will not be tolerated and will be removed. We want to maintain the quality of this group and will remove those who abuse it.

The RWS Community is built to support you to be successful
In the community, we strive for ONE version of the truth. It is the nearest thing to reality. We strive for perfection but we know there are so many variables that we will never reach completeness. The community is designed for you and around you, no matter where you are in your journey with RWS. Your growth is the growth of RWS. It is that simple.

Opinions & Facts
Opinions are always welcome but are more for Forums or Blogs. Forums and Blogs are now an integral part of every RWS Community group. Anybody can use them. They are moderated by the core teams of that group. Wiki's are there for recording factual information that doesn't perish over time.

Comments on the content are highly appreciated. We have dedicated teams for each group and they really love the interaction. Each page has a comment footer. Feel free to comment on the article. Any article.

Edits
So, you see something that is not correct or needs a nuance. Be bold. Be brave! Click the edit tab and edit the article. This is also YOUR content. The community of 'minds alike' really likes to see others edit their articles. It only improves the quality of the article making it more valuable. The more active the community, the more gains for all that participate. So, instead of logging a call or sending an email, why not correct it instantaneously!

Rating
Rate an article that you like or dislike. We use the rating to learn and to make sure that the articles are to the point and helpful. Equally, low rated articles are removed and discussed internally why they are low rated. It takes a single click to let the author know what you think.

User Access & Malintent
Anybody can enter, but we make sure we know who you are. Also the knowledge ownership and moderation - usually the hard part to organize - are firmly embedded in our organization. The work is done inside the community, not as work on the side. So we see you as part of our organization. And we are serious about serving you. Conversely, anybody with a clear bad intention will be spotted immediately. For the sake of the ever-growing number of serious members, we will be swift and firm to those who seek malice.

A Community is not "Support"
The good thing is that now RWS both has a Community and Support service. The distinction is obvious. In a community, you may or may not get an answer, in Support you can simply refer to your support contracts and associated Service Level Agreement. This doesn't mean RWS doesn't pay attention or doesn't care. It's just a different way of solving a business problem.

How can I change my display Name?

Log into the RWS Community
Click on your profile picture in the right upper corner
In the drop down menu, click on Profile
Then click on Edit Profile
Here you can edit your display name

How can I change my email address?

Go to https://oos.RWS.com
Log in with your RWS ID (credentials you're using to login to the RWS Community)

How can I update my profile information?

How do I receive notifications when someone replies to a thread?
If you have created the thread, you automatically get notifications if someone replies to your post. Beyond that, you can Follow a thread to receive an email notification when a reply to the thread is made. You can also “Follow” a space and sub-space. Additional options are available for customization of email notifications under your Settings. Detailed information here.

How do I receive notifications for Ideas I'm interested in?
This is a little different from the subscription settings for a forum thread. Detailed information here.

What is the easiest way to see my spaces or groups?
In the Top navigation right next to "Home" there's a link to "My Groups".

How do I start a question/discussion (thread)?
To start a discussion:

If you are already in a group, space, or project, go into the forum application of the group.
Start typing in the "Ask a Question" field or start a question by clicking on the "+ New" button in the right upper corner of the page.
Your discussion is defaulted to be marked as a question to encourage people to answer for points. If your goal is to start a discussion click on discussion instead of a question.
Write your discussion in the content field. You can format your text however you’d like, insert videos, images, hyperlinks, emoticons, or tables.
Add relevant tags to the Tags field so your question or discussion is easily searchable.
Click the Post Message button to post your question/discussion.
When someone responds to your discussion with an answer you deem correct or helpful, click the Verify as answer button to award points for their response, also you will receive 3 points for verifying the answer.

I posted a message earlier, but now it is gone. What happened?
Two things could have happened. The message was deleted, or the message was moved to another community because the moderator determined that it was better suited for another community. If the question was moved, you will be notified with a link attached directing to the page where the thread was moved to.

Can I subscribe to a forum?
Yes. You can subscribe to a forum or wiki. In the forum, wiki blog go to the bottom of the page and click on More. The click turn notifications On/Off. Another way is to go into a forum and in the list of forums, click underneath Subscribed on Off/On.

Can I subscribe to content via email?
Yes, in your account settings, you can see all the groups you've joined and there you can turn email digests on/off.

How do I reply to a message?
Every message has a Reply icon at the bottom of the message. Click the icon and fill the form to reply to the message. If you are not logged in, you will be prompted to log in. When you are finished, click Post.

How can I mark answers as Correct?
This only works if you have flagged your thread as a question. If the answer was correct, click on "Verify as correct". The answer will now appear with a green line above it.

Can I attach files to my messages?
Yes in the text editor click on Insert > Insert Image/Video/File

Why do I get so many emails?
To change this, you can edit your email preferences. Click on the drop down menu underneath to your profile picture in the top right corner. Then select settings and adjust your email settings from there.

How do I open a link in a new tab or new window?
Right click on the link and choose Open in New Tab or Open in New Window.

How do I “friend” a user?
You can send a friend request to any user in the RWS Community. To do this, you visit the user’s profile and then click the +Connect button. (You can also see this button if you hover over a user’s name).

Can I send a direct message to someone?
Yes, you can send private messages to the community members.
