Option for adding a flag to sdlxliff file not to add a space after segment when reverting to source file format

Hi,

sometimes it would be nice if we could tell Trados not to add a space after certain segments when reverting to source file format.

Quite often you get poorly prepared/segmented files from a client and in some target languages you have a concatenation e.g. with hyphens which require no space after the hyphen. When you put the hyphen at the end of the line in finalized file format you would get something like this:

Segment 1

240-Volt-

Segment 2

Leitung

will become

240-Volt- Leitung

instead of

240-Volt-Leitung

Having an option to tell Trados not to add a space as it usually does when merging segments at file finalization would solve this issue as both strings would be reverted to:

240-Volt-Leitung

Best regards,

Pascal

  •  Hi
Is it not better to merge the segments in the editor in this case?

I imagine you wouldn't want units like "240-Volt" and "Leitung" to be stored in your TM seperately?

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing two separate segments: '1 240-Volt-' and '2 Batterie'.

If you merge the segments in the editor, you'll have the units properly stored in your TM ("240-Volt-Leitung") as well as no problem with spaces at the end of the segments.

To merge the segments, select the segments e.g. with click+ctrl > right click > select "Merge Segments" -> the content of the selected segments is merged into one single segment.

    Example:

Context menu in Trados Studio with 'Merge Segments' option highlighted, indicating the process to combine segments.

-> Segment 2 is merged with segment 1:

Trados Studio interface after merging segments, now displaying '1 240-Volt-Batterie' as a single segment.

    I hope this helps.

    Have a great week ahead.

    Best regards

    Seraina
