unsigned sdl plugin notification

Hi,

every time you start Trados with an unsigned plugin you get asked if you want to start it due to security reasons. That's just annoying.

It would be great if Trados could remember this decision for each plugin so that you don't get it everytime but just if it was newly installed or updated.

regards,

Pascal

  • Hi ,

you don’t want to know how many times I tried that procedure, to no avail … I thus resigned and tried to find another solution to avoid all the clicking although it’s not optimal at least it saves me some time but the drawback is that I can’t do anything else (due to windows focus being lost) while Trados Studio is launching.

My solution was to created a script in a software (Displayfusion) that looks for 'creation' of these Plugin windows and then automatically clicks on yes.

You don't need to make inflammatory and unsubstantiated statements to make your point.  Unless of course you are now prepared to explain why we are more interested in serving the needs of agencies and other large-scale users and why this would be relevant to the point even if it was true, which it isn't.  Notwithstanding that the idea is clearly marked as "not considering" by the product manager (who is not me!) so 4-years... 10-years is still never!

However, I don't disagree with you that a don't ask again option would be more practical to save you clicking a few times whenever Studio starts up.  We have discussed this and have work planned to support a resolution to your complaints.  The work to do this is further down our list of tasks at the moment but we will get to it when we're ready.

I'd still say get them signed though... it costs the developer nothing and we actually sign plugins regularly already for many many developers.

If you have 10 plugins nagging at you that were downloaded from the appstore then you have a problem that is not related to whether they were signed or not! Clear them out properly and reinstall.

  •   Theory and practice … The problem is that even the Plug-ins created or updated by RWS team do not always get signed immediately or show issues with signatures especially after an update of said plugins. Right now, I have around 10 plugins nagging me at each start of Trados Studio and these are official plugins that I downloaded and installed via Studio directly from RWS App Store, so they SHOULD already be checked and have an official signature, but still they don't. I have no plugins that come from any other source that would not be signed.

  • Well, Paul, it's now 4 years later and developers are still not having their plug-ins signed. Let's be practical and give the Studio user an option to decide for themselves. Obviously many of us are choosing to use certain plug-ins whether they are signed or not. Adding a "don't ask again" option to the dialog box would make the application more user-friendly, and this is VERY important. It is important because SDL/RWS seems to be more interested in serving the needs of agencies and other large-scale users, yet it is important to let the large freelancer user base know that they are being listened to and that their needs are seen as important too.
