Often we need to edit the MetadataConfig.xml file in order to create fields in the properties dialogs for publications, topics, etc. for custom metadata, for instance. For some implementations, we do not have direct access to the MetadataConfig.xml file (i.e. for an SDL Docs Cloud implementation) and we need to submit a support ticket, which can be slow and tedious, even if we know the exact changes that are needed.
It would be great if this config XML file was editable directly in the Tridion Docs web client via the Settings tab, similar to how XML Extension Settings, XML Publish Plug-In Settings, etc. are editable. This would allow us to avoid having to wait for support and would give greater flexibility for development and testing.
Note, this would also require some mechanism to stop/start Trisoft background service(s) and IIS application pools in order to save and apply any edits.
