Tridion 15: Allow for "Show optional fields" option to be enabled by default

Publication properties in Tridion 15 includes a Show optional fields slider. Most of the metadata optionals in that field for Dell are mandatory, not optional. So this results in the user needed to enable the slider for every publication, and multiple times per publication. The request is to allow this slider to default to enabled, if the admin team requires it.

  • We would like to always display "optional" fields for all users in our CCMS. Many of the so-called optional fields are mandatory in our processes. We don't even need the possibility of users turning them off (i.e., the toggle can be removed completely from our UI).

  • Other customers have raised the same request. Many customer have optional fields and it requires an extra click to view them.

  • Hello,

Setting the toggle "Show optional fields" instead of having it in some way stored for each user account means that users have to set the toggle on a daily base. That doesn't make sense.

We'd expect the same behaviour as in Publication Manager, where the settings are stored per user.

Defining the required fields in metadataconfig.xml doesn't work in an enviroment as ours, where several user groups created content for completely different document types such as user manuals, service instructions and proposal documents. This results in more than one collection of metadata that are considered as important for the different document types.

    Kindly,

    Hella Tischer

  • Hello,

Thank you for sharing your idea. You can define all required fields as mandatory at the metadataconfig.xml. In this case, the toggle will hide only the remaining optional fields. Additionally, when you set the toggle "Show optional fields", the state will be preserved for the current browser tab until you reload the page or open a new tab.
