Add a 'Go to location' button into the XPM interface when viewing pages

As mentioned in my answer to Ryan's What are the best practices for structuring your schemas for Experience Manager? question over on the Tridion Stack Exchange Meta site, I think that it would be useful to have a "Go to location" button in the XPM interface when viewing a page.

Having this button would allow editors to quickly switch the the Content Management Explorer (CME) interface and see the page inside of its Structure Group.

This would be similar behaviour to the "Go to location" button on the "Where used" dialogue.

This would be especially beneficial if there is metadata on the structure group that needs to be edited.

  • Thanks Alvin. I guess that this is an awareness issue, rather than needing a product update, so I'm happy for you to close it.

    Cheers,

    Jon

  • Yes, the "Go to location" option is already available in XPM, but in the drop-down options under the Open button. Be sure to select the page or component (presentation) you want to "jump" to first, which should show in the breadcrumb before using the "Go to location" command.

Also, in Web 8, we added the option to open the item from the context of a Component or page to make at least opening items faster (and more "contextual").
