Issues with copies of “ and ”

Hello.  We have updated to XPP 9.7 on a Linux server and notice an odd issue with copying/pasting from one DIV to another.
The entities for double quotes, “ and ”, appear as \Uffffffff when copying text from one DIV and pasting to another DIV.  However, if copied within the same DIV, they still render correctly.
As far as we know, our XCS specs are the same.  Also note that we are using VcXsrv instead of Exceed for x11.
Does anyone have any idea why ȁ and ” do not survive a copy between DIVs?  Note that “ and ” work just fine for these copies between DIVs.
Any thoughts are appreciated.
Thank you.

  • Hi, Sharon.  Maybe it would help if we change the focus of my question to why the copies work within a DIV but not to another DIV or to elsewhere.

Here is a summary of what is happening.

    • A copy from a DIV to elsewhere in the same DIV works fine - “ and ” render correctly as double quotes
    • A copy from a DIV to a different DIV does not work - “ and ” render as \Uffffffff
    • A copy from a DIV to notepad does not work - “ and ” render as 2 question marks in a box
    • A copy from a DIV does not work when running a powershell command to check the clipboard contents - “ and ” render as 2 question marks in a diamond

To me, the question marks indicate unknown characters.

Are there any kinds of UTF-8 settings that XPP looks at for servers?  Perhaps our new server for 9.7 has something wrong or missing.

Just taking shots in the dark...

    Regards,

    Clif.
