Thanks Sorin. It's 2014 Studio and Win7 (I know!).

1) I am on the product activation modal window, click on Activate.

2) I enter my activation code but get an error (SocketError2 -77)

3) Select alternative options and then Offline Activation

4) Try to generate the certificate online by entering activation code and installation ID and that's where I get the above.

It's like the server isn't even accepting the request

What version of Studio did you installed? What Windows version do you have installed?

Let me know exactly what are you trying to do step by step.
