Pre-translation with ChatGPT

Hi Team,

I am testing both on Trados 2022 and 2024 with plugins for different NMT/LLM engines with paid API keys.

It generally works well, but I have several questions on the usage of some functions as below.

1. Pre-translation does not work neither with AI Professional (2022) nor OpenAI Provider (2024). I tried in many ways, and it failed all without a clear reason notified. Is there any presetting I need to configure to use this function?

FYI, segment translation works well with OpenAI, and pre-translation works with both DeepL and Google Translate.

2.  For DeepL and Google Translate, is there any way that I can re-call the translation when I don't like it?

3. With the engine connected, the translation is automatically filled in the target segment field. Is there any way that the engine translates it only when I request instead of translating it every time that I click the target segment field?

Thank you very much for your help in advance.

  • Hi  , let's see if we can identify the root cause.

Can you please provide me with the OpenAI provider for Trados Studio logs?

They can be found here: C:\Users\[OS_USER_NAME]\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio\Logs
Note: change [OS_USER_NAME] with you windows user name.

pls send the logs to my rws e-mail account phartnett@rws.com, not here on the public community forum.

  • Hi  , just checking in to see if you still need help with this.

    1. Pre-translation with AI Professional / OpenAI Provider
We've been going back 'n forth on the other threads so not sure if we have answered these questions?

    2. Re-calling a translation (DeepL / Google Translate)
There’s no built-in mechanism to manually "re-generate" a translation from the Translation Provider feature in the Studio Editor. Translations are requested and provided in the Translation Results view as you navigate to the segments; standard behavior.
Some providers, such as DeepL, include an option called "Resend draft" that forces the provider to resend the translation request even if a translation already exists. This gives you a way to regenerate content when needed.

    3. Controlling automatic translation behavior
If the connected engine is added as a Translation Provider, then Studio automatically queries the provider whenever you move into a segment that isn’t yet translated; this is standard behavior. The translation is presented in the Translation Results window and, in some cases depending on options, inserted automatically.
If you prefer to control when translation happens, the OpenAI Provider allows a deeper integration through the AI Assistant view. There, you can choose between your provider being used automatically (as above) or manually via a selected prompt. Unfortunately, this interactive/manual mode isn’t yet available for NMT providers like DeepL or Google Translate.
