Figma Preview for Trados Figma connector not working on some files

I’m currently testing the Trados–Figma connector for a client.

One of the key features we’re evaluating is the ability to display translated text in real time within the Figma UI elements. While the Figma Preview feature provides this functionality when using Trados Team, we’ve noticed during testing that it frequently encounters errors that prevent the preview from displaying correctly.

I’d appreciate any insights into what data elements or conditions might cause the Figma Preview to fail, as well as any known workarounds for this issue.

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi Ryan

One of the main reasons for the preview failure can be the phisycal size of the Figma design causing the export to fail, and/or the complexity of the content in the design, maybe some special characters, code or large images.

First thing to check is whether you receive a design to preview in Trados - in the Trados project, check the Files tab, and see if you receive an .svg file of the design. You can also check in Figma, and see if you are able to directly export the design as an svg file.

The immediate workaround for this (if it is indeed the size/complexity of the design), is to breal the design up into mutiple pages.
If the design cannot be changed, you also have the option to use the Generate Referance File option in the connector, while this does not provide a preview in online editor, it will provide the translator with a PDF file that they can reference directly.
