Adding OpenAI provider for Trados Studio 2024 - fails with error - Connection Failed - Methode DisposeAsync*

Hello

I’m trying to configure OpenAI provider for Trados Studio 2024 (1.2.18.0), but I getting an error during the setup process and cannot proceed beyond the "Test Connection" step.
When clicking on Test Connection I get the error:

Connection Failed
Code:
Message: Method DisposeAsync• in type
' Polly.Utils.Pipeline.BridgeComponenť1 from assembly
'Polly.Core, Version—8.O.O.O, Culture—neutral,
PublicKeyToken=c8a3ffc3f8f825cc• does not have an
implementation.

I followed the instructions in the App documentation tab at this link : https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/249?tab=documentation

I checked the FAQ section especially:

Q: What can I do if I am having issues connecting?

A: Check if you have a paid OpenAI API account; you should be able to confirm this from here. You can also check your API key that you created from here, and added this to the Model connection settings. For further assistance, review the log files: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados\Logs

Q: Are logs available?

A: Yes, logs are located at: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados\Logs.

Q: Where are my connection details stored?

A: Connection details are stored at: C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados\Settings\Connections.xml.

As additional information I can confirm that I successfully configured the AI Professional provider for Studio 2022 SR2  as you can see on the image bellow. I understand this that my subscription and OpenAI account is configured correctly and there is no issue with the OpenAI account, its permissions, etc.

Trados Studio settings showing the gpt-3.5-turbo model connection under 'AI Professional' with options for prompts, search settings, and a highlighted message stating 'Connection Successful.'

I would appreciate any suggestion on how to debug the issues with  OpenAI Provider and findaly make it working.

I'm tagging   and   as both were responding to OpenAI related posts.

Thank you and best regards.

Question improvement suggestion: Provide the exact steps you took to configure the OpenAI provider and any specific troubleshooting steps you have already attempted. This will help in diagnosing the issue more effectively.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello,

It seems you're encountering a connection issue while trying to configure the OpenAI provider for Trados Studio 2024. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

**Step 1:** **Check API Key and Account Status**

    - Ensure that you have a valid OpenAI API key and that your account is active. You can verify this by visiting the OpenAI billing overview page.

    **Step 2:** **Review the Logs**

    - Check the log files located at `C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados\Logs` for any specific error messages that might provide more insight into the connection failure.

**Step 3:** **Update Trados Studio and the Plugin**

    - Make sure that both Trados Studio and the OpenAI provider plugin are updated to their latest versions. You can check for updates within the application.

**Step 4:** **Check for Firewall or Network Issues**

    - Ensure that there are no firewalls or network configurations blocking the connection. If you're in a corporate environment, you may need to consult your IT department.

**Step 5:** **Reset Trados Studio Settings**

    - As a last resort, you can reset your Trados Studio settings. This can be done by renaming the `Studio16` folder located at `C:\Users\%USERNAME%\App Data\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\`.

    **Step 6:** **Enable TLS 1.2**

    - Since the error message mentions a method not having an implementation, it may be related to TLS settings. Ensure that TLS 1.2 is enabled on your system. You can download a registry fix for this if necessary.

If you follow these steps and still encounter issues, please provide any additional error messages or logs that may help in diagnosing the problem further.

I hope this answer addressed your question. If not, please reject the answer, add the question improvement suggestion information, and click the RWS Community AI checkbox on the right to try again.

  • Obviously my question is to complex for AI to process and so suggested steps are generic.

Just noticed that AI is Trained on

Incorrect paths suggested for OpenAI Provide for Trados v. 1.2.18.0.

    LOGS:
    Suggested path:  `C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados\Logs`
Actual path C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio\Logs

    SETTINGS
    Suggested:  `C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados\Settings`
    Actual path:
     C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio\Settings

    Some comments regarding steps.:
Step 1. - same key works in Studio 2022 plugin

Step 2. Log - not much seen here, other that plugin version is lower than minversion
    OpenAI.Provider.ApplicationInstance: 2025-11-28 12:09:48.0087 Info Method: "LoadTelemetryService", : {"PlugInName":"OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio", "Version":"1.2.18.0", "Description":"OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio", "Author":"Trados AppStore Team", "RequiredProduct":{"name":"TradosStudio", "minversion":"18.1", "maxversion":"18.1.9"}, "Include":{"Files":["OpenAI.Provider.API.dll","OpenAI.Provider.dll.config","OpenAI.TerminologyScoreCalculator.dll","Trados.Telemetry.dll","Trados.Telemetry.dll.config","Trados.Terminology.API.dll","SegmentComparer.dll","Polly.dll","Polly.Core.dll","Microsoft.Bcl.TimeProvider.dll","Microsoft.Bcl.AsyncInterfaces.dll"]}}

Step 3: Studio an d plugin are up to date.

Step 4: Plugin in Studio 2022 SR2 is working with same settings. Also suggestion si  very vague and doesn't give a hint what to check in FW or network settings.

    Step 5 and Step 6: I didn't do them.

  • I see my comments to the AI generated answer are not visible so I'll just rewrite them shortly.:

DId check all suggested steps but step 5 and 6.

    I noticed two issue:

    1st:
    Error logs:
    OpenAI.Provider.ApplicationInstance: 2025-11-28 12:09:48.0087 Info Method: "LoadTelemetryService", : {"PlugInName":"OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio", "Version":"1.2.18.0", "Description":"OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio", "Author":"Trados AppStore Team", "RequiredProduct":{"name":"TradosStudio", "minversion":"18.1", "maxversion":"18.1.9"}, "Include":{"Files":["OpenAI.Provider.API.dll","OpenAI.Provider.dll.config","OpenAI.TerminologyScoreCalculator.dll","Trados.Telemetry.dll","Trados.Telemetry.dll.config","Trados.Terminology.API.dll","SegmentComparer.dll","Polly.dll","Polly.Core.dll","Microsoft.Bcl.TimeProvider.dll","Microsoft.Bcl.AsyncInterfaces.dll"]}}

    2nd:
AI is trained or is referring to incorrect or old paths.

Suggestion is to look at `C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados\Logs`
where the actual path should point
    at `C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados Studio\Logs`

Still hoping to hear from you guys ...

    Thank you,

  • Hi  , Polly is one of the dependcies we use to manage async operations in that plugin. Strange that it's throwing this error as it's installed with the plugin when unpacked in the pugins folder.  Potential causes, existing unpacked folder, conflicting dependencies and require binding redirect.  general connection issue but bubbling up the wrong error.

Let's try a few things to get started:

    1. The plugin as been rebranded a few times.  This is the reason you're seeing multiple folders with similar names.  This is the correct plugins resource folder in ROAMING:

    C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados AppStore\OpenAI provider for Trados Studio\Logs

Can you please provide the recent logs? send to phartnett@rws.com 'n make reference to this community post in the email body.  I'll review and get back to you asap.

    2. Can you pls make sure that the plugins unpacked folder is removed before you install the latest release?

    a) Close down studio.

    b) Remove the plugin and unpacked folder:

    - C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\18\Plugins\Packages\OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio.sdlplugin

    - C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Trados\Trados Studio\18\Plugins\Unpacked\OpenAI Provider for Trados Studio

    c) Download install the latest version of the plugin https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/249

    d) Start Trados Studio and redo the test

    3. What other plugins have you installed (include also versions)?  It might be that for some reason another plugin is injecting a different version of polly into the Studio context that is interfering with the version used by OpenAI provider.  This list will help us determine this type of issue.

  • Hi  ,

Thank you for the quick feedback and provided suggestions.

Based on the point 3) in you reply I reviewed the installed Plugins and I noticed "Unknown origin" for two plugins.
RWS AppStore interface showing 9 installed plugins, including DeepL Translation Provider, Google Cloud Translation Provider, and Custom.MT Translation with 'Unknown origin' label.

By  using SDL Plugin Manager removed both of them even as the primary suspect was un-updated Custom.MT plugin.
I restarted Studio and started the OpenAI provider configuration again.

    No error this time. :-)

I didn't do anything else regarding OpenAI provider plugin (downloading it from APP  store), nor did I delete anything else from the Plugins packages and unpackaged subfolders.

I see now that custom.MT plugin has been rebranded and has new version AI Localization with Custom.MT (2024.1.5.0) which I installed.
As you could expect ti, Both work now. Custom.MT and also OpenAI provide.

:Search result for 'custom.mt' in RWS AppStore displaying AI Localization with Custom.MT plugin, version 2024.15.0, with a description of its features and functionality.

Even as this issue is now resolved, I sent you the OpenAI provide log showing the successful connection on your e-mail

    Lessons learned - self service:
    - I need to check  all installed plugins in Studio and also with SDL Plugin manager.
    - If there are plugins that were not installed through Studio AppStore interface, REMOVE them and test agine.

Thank you again and best regards,

Computers!!  To avoid this try to share logs or code or error messages as a code block through the Insert menu:
