Installation FAQs

Min Version Requirement: the application can only be installed successfully under SDL Trados Studio 2017 with a minimum of CU3.

The CU3 is a free update that is usually installed automatically through the automatic update. If you need to take this manually you can find the update here.

The application

Once downloaded and installed you will find SDL Analyse either within Studio,

or as a standalone application on your desktop.

The application itself is straightforward to use, just a simple drag and drop (or navigate to) the required files into the SDL Analyse View in Studio,

A few principles

The application itself can run as a standalone application that doesn't require Studio to be running, and it can also run within a new view inside Studio.

The basic idea is you drag and drop, or select, files (zip files can be used) into the interface and the application will return an analysis based on one of the following:

Advanced View
- Translation Memories based on a Project Template or,
- Translation Memories based on a combination of you adding your own and the Project Template
Simple View
- Translation Memories added by you or,
- No Translation Memory at all

The creation of a Project is never required.

The language direction used for the analysis is based on the Translation Memories used, and if you don't select any then the application will create one in the background based on the default languages you have set here:

The reports themselves are available in several formats:

Troubleshooting

If for some reason, SDL Analyse is not running/installing correctly, there are a number of things to check-

1) Double check that you have the correct version installed (for the version of Studio you have installed- ensuring this is also updated to the latest SR/CU).

2) A potential issue, is left over registries from previous Studio installations.

If you have had previous Studio versions installed, which have now been removed and you no longer use, please check the registry and remove unwanted entries.

To do this-

Open your registry editor (Windows key +R) and then type regedit (you will need ADMIN rights to do this).

Now navigate to-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SDL\

And delete the leftover registry entries.

Do NOT delete entries for Studio version(s) that you still have installed and are using- e.g.

Studio 16 = Studio 2021

Studio 15 = Studio 2019

Studio 5 = Studio 2017

(If for example, you see Studio 4 (relates to Studio 2015), you can safely (if you have already removed Studio 2015 from your machine) delete this entry and now restart your machine).

3) The latest release for Studio 2021- now includes 'logging'.

Logfiles, stores essential error data in the form of a .txt file that will normally tell us why there is an issue.

Installation FAQs

Min Version Requirement: the application can only be installed successfully under SDL Trados Studio 2017 with a minimum of CU3.

The CU3 is a free update that is usually installed automatically through the automatic update. If you need to take this manually you can find the update here.

The application

Once downloaded and installed you will find SDL Analyse either within Studio,

or as a standalone application on your desktop.

The application itself is straightforward to use, just a simple drag and drop (or navigate to) the required files into the SDL Analyse View in Studio,

The application itself can run as a standalone application that doesn't require Studio to be running, and it can also run within a new view inside Studio.

The basic idea is you drag and drop, or select, files (zip files can be used) into the interface and the application will return an analysis based on one of the following:

Advanced View
- Translation Memories based on a Project Template or,
- Translation Memories based on a combination of you adding your own and the Project Template
Simple View
- Translation Memories added by you or,
- No Translation Memory at all

The creation of a Project is never required.

The reports themselves are available in several formats:

Troubleshooting

If for some reason, SDL Analyse is not running/installing correctly, there are a number of things to check-

1) Double check that you have the correct version installed (for the version of Studio you have installed- ensuring this is also updated to the latest SR/CU).

2) A potential issue, is left over registries from previous Studio installations.

If you have had previous Studio versions installed, which have now been removed and you no longer use, please check the registry and remove unwanted entries.

To do this-

Open your registry editor (Windows key +R) and then type regedit (you will need ADMIN rights to do this).

Now navigate to-

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SDL\

And delete the leftover registry entries.

Do NOT delete entries for Studio version(s) that you still have installed and are using- e.g.

Studio 16 = Studio 2021

Studio 15 = Studio 2019

Studio 5 = Studio 2017

(If for example, you see Studio 4 (relates to Studio 2015), you can safely (if you have already removed Studio 2015 from your machine) delete this entry and now restart your machine).

3) The latest release for Studio 2021- now includes 'logging'.

Logfiles, stores essential error data in the form of a .txt file that will normally tell us why there is an issue.

You will find these log files here-

C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\SDL Community (selecting SDL Analyse)

Installation FAQs

Min Version Requirement : the application can only be installed successfully under SDL Trados Studio 2017 with a minimum of CU3. The CU3 is a free update that is usually installed automatically through the automatic update. If you need to take this manually you can find the update here.
Windows permissions : the application creates a windows service that runs permanently in the background. This is required to support the standalone application that can be run on its own without Studio running, and to support enhanced features for developers who can use this service to create other innovative ways to use the analysis capability. This means that you will need to provide your windows login during the installation process so the service can be installed:

If you have configured your computer not to use this feature and you log straight in without having to enter a username and password then you will need to workaround this as follows:
- go to your windows Control Panel -> User Accounts and create a password for your user account
- uninstall the application if you have already attempted to install it and reinstall
- enter the password you just created to complete the installation
- now you can go back to the User Account and delete this password
If you have forgotten your password then you can reset it. There's a useful article here explaining how to do this.
If you get the message "SDL Analyse service is not available, please make sure the service is running." then please make sure that the user is the same as the user you log into windows with by following the instructions below. This will avoid having to reinstall the application with the correct user:
- Press WinKey+R to bring up the Windows Run command and type services.msc and click OK
- Scroll down until you find the SDL Analyse service
- Right-click on the service and select Properties. Then click on the Log On tab across the top
- You can now select the correct user. Note that this should not be the Local System Account because it will be incorrect.
- Also note that I used a fully qualified name here (DOMAIN\username). Normally this should be the case, but if you have a problem with this please check who the user is for your account and just add the username by itself. This will add the user as .\username in the running service.

Installation FAQs

Min Version Requirement : the application can only be installed successfully under SDL Trados Studio 2017 with a minimum of CU3. The CU3 is a free update that is usually installed automatically through the automatic update. If you need to take this manually you can find the update here.
Windows permissions : the application creates a windows service that runs permanently in the background. This is required to support the standalone application that can be run on its own without Studio running, and to support enhanced features for developers who can use this service to create other innovative ways to use the analysis capability. This means that you will need to provide your windows login during the installation process so the service can be installed:

If you have configured your computer not to use this feature and you log straight in without having to enter a username and password then you will need to workaround this as follows:
- go to your windows Control Panel -> User Accounts and create a password for your user account
- uninstall the application if you have already attempted to install it and reinstall
- enter the password you just created to complete the installation
- now you can go back to the User Account and delete this password
If you have forgotten your password then you can reset it. There's a useful article here explaining how to do this.
If you get the message "SDL Analyse service is not available, please make sure the service is running." then please make sure that the user is the same as the user you log into windows with by following the instructions below. This will avoid having to reinstall the application with the correct user:
- Press WinKey+R to bring up the Windows Run command and type services.msc and click OK
- Scroll down until you find the SDL Analyse service
- Right-click on the service and select Properties. Then click on the Log On tab across the top
- You can now select the correct user. Note that this should not be the Local System Account because it will be incorrect.
Old Studio versions left over : another potential problem is related registry entries left behind from previous Studio installations that you don't use anymore. If you still have problems to install, or find the standalone application is not working correctly then please do the following.
1. Can you open your registry editor (Windows key +R and then type regedit) and navigate the following key:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\SDL\
2. Delete the leftover registry entries (Studio2, Studio3, etc) - do not delete anything related to Studio5 as this is Studio 2017. Also, if you still use an older version then don't delete those either. Only remove keys you find that relate to a version of Studio you do not use anymore. So for example:
