MultiTerm is unable to create the termbase.

I've been having this problem for about a month since I used Studio 2019's auto-update feature.

I am unable to create new termbases. The precise message given is "MultiTerm is unable to create the termbase. エラーを特定できません". The latter Japanese (which is the language I translate from) says "unidentified error".

I tried manually updating MultiTerm and it didn't fix the problem.

    To answer this question first:

    If you save the error log to an xml file on your desktop, which is an option, and then attach the file two nice things happen:

    1. we can read it better as the message is nicely formatted in a small space

    There are all kinds of possible reasons for this so I suggest you start by searching the knowledgebase:

    But usual reasons are:

    1. out of date MultiTerm and/or Studio.  I can see your Studio is up to date but do also have this version of MultiTerm installed?
      SDL MultiTerm 2019 - 15.0.5.56289
    2. the path and/or name of termbase contains Asian characters
    3. you have the termbase on OneDrive or similar and synch is on
    4. your antivirus is not allowing Multiterm to work
    5. etc... there are more

    But given this:

    It makes me think you didn't also update MultiTerm so I'd start there.

    Thanks for the quick answer!

    I just updated MultiTerm manually and it didn't fix the problem. Hope I did that right - I followed a link you provided in response to another query.

    The path and/or name of the termbase certainly contain Asian characters and always have in the past, which worked fine before. My OS and all directories are in Asian characters. It would be pretty easy to just make a termbase folder in the C: directory to fix this, but how do I do that?

    Take a look at the version number and tell us what it is now?

    When you create a new termbase the very first thing you are asked is where should it go.  So just navigate to your c drive, create an empty folder in there (it'll be tidier), and try again.

    If none of this helps I'd recommend you log a case using this link:

    You have two options:

    1. Submit a case using a webform
    2. Use live chat to get a licence reset

    You want to use the first option and make sure that you refer to this thread so the teams can see what you have tried already.

    Hi Paul,

    Sorry for the delay. My version number is 15.0.5.56289.

    I tried creating a new folder in my root drive (C:), ensuring that no Asian characters were used in the directory or the termbase name. I still received an error.

    However, I should clarify how I'm getting these errors. I receive an error when I try to create a new termbase in SDL Trados Studio 2019. (I get the message in my first post.) 

    When I open MultiTerm itself to create a new termbase, I can create a new termbase. However, when I try to open it in SDL Trados Studio 2019, I get a new error: "General error occurred and MultiTerm is unable to retrieve the multimedia object."

    I will try using the webform now.
