Termbase creation from within Trados Studio 2019 fails with error "MultiTerm is unable to create the termbase. Not a valid file name."

Hi,

Every time I try to create a Termbase, this fails with the above message ("MultiTerm is unable to create the termbase. Not a valid file name").

I have really tried everything: I have followed all the advice in every thread I have found, but to no avail. I have also tried to create the Termbase both from within Trados and with the Trados 2019 Multiterm Desktop app.

Since I have seen quite a lot of people reporting this issue, I would imagine this is something that, for some reason, Trados is prone to develop.

Please HELP! This is driving me insane.

Thank you very much.

  • Paul,

Thank you SO much for you 3 questions, because although I knew that special characters in the path might create a problem, and although I was convinced that I didn't have any in mine, your question no. 2 alerted me to ACTUALLY check the path. What I could see was: C:\Users\sergio\OneDrive\Documents\Studio 2019\Termbases, but when I opened the dropdown menu in the path box, I saw that the ACTUAL path was: C:\Users\sergio\OneDrive\1. Documents\Studio 2019\Termbases. I suppose that "1." (which I must have added at some point) is what created the problem, because I have now tried again and was finally able to create my first Termbase.

    Thank you SO much!

    All best,

    Sergio
