once again I have a question about handling xml files from WordPress in Trados Studio.

We received some sample files from a client in order to make some tests (see enclosed files).

I know I would have to create a custom xml filetype to handle these files, but I am not quite sure if it is even possible to handle them as the client wishes.

Wouldn't it be easier to export xliff from Wordpress?

File: XPress_allCases.xml

This file shows that multi-line texts are also possible.

See Key: general.dieSet.rfid.readIdsError

Even those with empty lines.

See Key: general.waitingToEjectDischarge

These keys are not identical and should therefore be treated as separate texts:

Key A: messages.ctrlClass.FB_BALO.10_cause

Key B: messages.ctrlClass.FB_BALO.fbBackLoad.10_cause

File: XPress_invalidStructure.xml

There is an error in this file, and unfortunately also in the original file.

Key: zeroGapWidthFlex

Keys that do not appear in all languages indicate an error on our part.

This can happen, and in such cases, you are welcome to contact us and request a new export.

Depending on the order, we may not want to check existing texts in the target languages. In this case, we will ignore them as we have done with Excel up to now.

Thank you very much for your support!

I'm currently using Trados Studio 2022 SR2 CU10.

I've recently migrated a custom XML file type from v1 to v2. I added all the prefixed namespace mappings (except the default namespace).

When testing the file type, I noticed that most parser rules work fine, except if they include a mention to any attribute without a namespace prefix.

For example:

XPath

Status

//doc

OK

//doc[@name='question']

NOK

//doc[@*[local-name() = 'name'] = 'question' ]

NOK

Curiously enough, when I remove the default namespace from my XML document, rules which reference attributes seem to work again.

I've tried adding the default namespace to the namespace mapping, both during and after the XML file type migration, but it always returns a "Enter a value for Prefix." error.

Could you please help me figure out how to solve this issue?

Thanks!

set a file type for a specific xml office:spreadsheet

Hello. I need to translate an xml file. I use Trados Studio Professional 2024 SR1 18.1.3.6657. Below I pasted an extract of the file.

First, I have opened the xml file in Excel and have hidden the columns and raws that do not require translation. Then I created a Studio project with this Excel file, enabling embedded content.

I have tried to set the "XML 2: Any XML" file type to exclude html entities and all the stuff that does not require translation, but I still have many "rubbish" in the file. My problem is both with extra texts and with entities such as &shy; , &nbsp; , etc.

I would need a file type so that Trados only shows what actually needs to be translated.

Thank you for your help!

We have a number of writers who need to run bulk find and replace operations across specific directories within the repository—not just within individual publications. Before we point everyone to manually search within each publication, I wanted to check in with this group.

What’s the recommended or most efficient way to handle cross‑directory find and replace?
Are there tools, scripts, or existing workflows you’d suggest so writers can safely make updates at scale without risking unintended changes?

Any guidance, best practices, or pointers to existing resources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

We’re currently looking into the best way to search for a DITA element across the repository—specifically, how often and where the
<text>
element is used in our DITA files.

While testing different search inputs, I’ve noticed some inconsistent behavior:

When I enter
"<text cid"
in the Find in field, no results appear.

When I enter (without quotes), the search returns a few topics that do contain the
<text>
element, but the remaining topics in the results list don’t include any instance of
<text
or
text
in their markup.

If I simply enter text, the first few topics contain the word text in the body content, but there is no
<text>
element in the topic coding.

We’re trying to determine the most effective way to identify all actual uses of the
<text>
element in the repository.

Would you please advise on the correct search syntax or best approach for locating specific DITA elements in the DITA coding of a topic? Any tips or known limitations with the search function would be extremely helpful.

Thanks in advance for your guidance!

Best.

I have a web page that includes coding for "pop-up" definitions. Basically, the user mouses over a term in blue and the definition of that term pops up. It looks like this:

[Name] does not require that you meet a deductible. Instead, you will pay a copay for services and the plan will immediately begin sharing in the cost of care.

When you move the mouse over "copay", the definition pops up as "A flat fee you pay for covered expenses (usually without paying a deductible)."

The coding looks like this:

<p>
[Name] does not require that you meet a deductible.
Instead, you will pay a
<span
data-bs-html="true"
data-bs-trigger="hover focus"
data-bs-toggle="popover"
data-bs-content="A flat fee you pay for covered expenses (usually without paying a deductible)."
>copay</span
>
for services and the plan will
<strong>immediately</strong> begin sharing in the cost
of care.
</p>

In Trados, I see the text that appears above in the "data-bs-content=" entry within the tag (toggled to display full tag text). I need to make it so that I can access that part of the tag and translate the information.

Standalone QA settings (RegEx) editor in Studio

Is there any standalone QA settings (RegEx) editor in Studio, without having to open a project, then the project settings?
I would like to be able to work on my RegEx settings without being in any project.

Can we generate the rule below text covering the biggest entry of that particular column of a table?

Hi Everybody,

Used Trados Studio: 2021 SR1 - 16.1.5.4270

Hi there,

i am adapting a filter for one of our translation project types in WorldServer through Trados Studio/File Type Options. What i have is a Custom XML v 1.3.0.0 file type with

an Embedded Content Plain Text v 1.0.0.0. where a few rules for placeholders have been defined.

Now i have a new requirement: In the future there should be a forced segmentation when a sentence end sign (e.g. full stop, comma, etc.) is followed by a new line tag (<CRLF>) without blank:

Example for an xml:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<article>

<id toTranslation="false">NA5_Item</id>
<language toTranslation="false">de-AG</language>
<target_market>AG</target_market>
<target_language>English (AG)</target_language>
<target_build>2025-11-01 - since 2025-11</target_build>
<models toTranslation="false">NA5</models>
<code toTranslation="false">_NA5</code>

To activate that in WorldServer/Trados Studio as far as i know there needs to be an adaption through a Language Resource Template which needs to be applied on the File Transfer Server of the WorldServer. Is that correct?

If so how do i define the segmentation rule? My tries/tests so far where fruitless

The custom file type uses XPath, and the breaks are added as a parser rule (//br) set to inline. Currently, the breaks are displayed as tags.
In the target file, the breaks need to be exported as breaks (<br />).

Regex target: \s\.

I was hoping that Trados will show me segments with a space preceding a full stop, yet this rule also matches a Tag preceding a full stop.

I have also tried to enter a rule that shows me a match if I mistakenly enter a space after an opening bracket:

\(\s

but here again I get a lot of false positives, i.e. a lot of positives with a Tag that show up after the opening bracket. Is there any possibility to exclude those segments with Tags to show up during the check? Does regex regard Tags as spaces?

Thank you for considering my request.

Segmentation rule | exceptions | full stop rule

Hi all,

Does anyone know if it is possible to make sure segments are not separated by a full stop in any case that is not the end of a sentence? So for example in names for people, like 'F.G. de Groot', but also after a common abbreviation that is followed by an uppercase in the following word. I've noticed that it doesn't separate the segments when it's followed by a word starting with a lowercase letter. I've also noticed Trados Studio 2022 sometimes breaks up hyperlinks after the :\\, which will have to manually be merged again.

I hope you know what I'm trying to get at and have some solutions for me I haven't tried yet. I've tried \p{Lu} before the break as an exception to the full stop rule (as found under another post in this forum), which seems to work for the names for people (thank god), but that's only part of the problem it appears. And I'm not exactly an expert on what every bit of a regular expression means exactly, so I'm not sure what I need to add or delete in order to get exactly what I'm trying to achieve from it.

Thanks in advance,

Note that I also added a languages parent element to have the required languages root:

However, even though there are over 1700 German terms, only the first one is extracted:

According to the XQuery Builder in oXygen, the XPath expression for de-DE should match 1792 different items, but Trados Studio extracts the first entry 1810 times, which is the number of termEntry elements in the file.

We are currently translating some dita files using Trados Studio 2022 SR2.

We noticed that some source segments seemed incomplete in Trados Studio.

We checked the source dita files and we figured that said segments should begin with a tag corresponding to the name of a product (but the tag did not appear in Trados Studio).

You will find below one file provided as an example. I have highlighted the missing tag in Trados Studio in yellow.

The segment in Trados starts off directly with "is", so in other words, the tag is not included in the source segment by Trados.

When we clean the file, the product tag does appear at the beginning of the sentence in the target dita file. This is an issue because, for some target languages, we need to add an article before the tag.

We would like to have the tag included in Trados in order to have some control over where we place the tag in the target version.

We have tried adding the following tag parameters in the Trados settings for Oasis 1.3 files but to no avail: //ph, //ph keyref, //ph keyref="product" / and the like.

Can you think of a solution that would help us?

Many thanks in advance for your help,

I'd like to ask for your help. I have a source DOCX file with a product description. I have set the product name as a placeholder in the Word file type settings for embedded content, and made it "Include" the placeholder, as I need it to be a part of the text in all occurrences. Everything words OK when the placeholder is in the middle of a sentence, but there's one place where the sentence starts with the placeholder and despite the settings, Trados excludes it from the whole sentence. Please see the reference screenshots below.

Trados preview - note that the "Starry Mice" placeholder is excluded in segment 6

Any ideas what went wrong, and how to achieve that the placeholder is treated under "Include" settings?

</html>

Ideally, it should be segmented into two:

The 1st segment being: The below image shows that the p0_pblock has been adjusted so that its bottom edge is pulled higher by a half clock region to avoid the error.

The 2nd segment being: <span style="font-family: &#39;courier new&#39;, courier, monospace;">function</span> can be used again to confirm this.

I setup the language rules to use the period (.) as the segmentation rule.

I setup <span> like this:

But then, Studio treated the whole paragraph as one segment,

It's always the same even if I changed the Segmentation hint to: Include, Include with Text or May Exclude.

But when I set the Segmentation hint to Exclude, Studio separated the paragraph into three segments instead.

The 1st segment being: The below image shows that the p0_pblock has been adjusted so that its bottom edge is pulled higher by a half clock region to avoid the error.

The 2nd segment being: function

The 3rd segment being: can be used again to confirm this.

Please suggest how I can get it right. By the way, I'm using Trados Studio 2024.

Thanks

How to handle tabs and line breaks in a tmx file?

When translating an XML file in Trados Studio 2021 I encountered an issue with line breaks and tabs.

The file contains strings such as this:

\n\t\tSamsung: Anynet+ \n\t\tLG: Simplink \n\t\tSony: Bravia sync \n\t\tPhilips: EasyLink \n\t\tSharp: Aquos Link \n\t\tPanasonic: HDAVI Control, EZ-Sync o VIERA Link \n\t\tToshiba: CE-Link o Enlace Regza

These \n (line breaks) and \t (tabs) are not processed by the filter.

Is there any way to process it as such? All help is appreciated!

I went over the options in the filter, but could not find a solution.

Configure Trados to ignore optional hyphens in the source text

Hello,

We translate mainly from German into other languages. For German websites, we need a lot of optional hyphens to avoid strange line breaks. Unfortunately, these optional hyphens impact severely on our match values, as you can see in the screenshot:

Is there a way to configure the filetype (XLIFF) or any other settings so that the optional hyphens are ignored and do not impact on match values?

We are using Trados Studio 2022 SR 2 (17.2.11.19134) and Trados Studio 2024 (18.0.1.2259).

Any help is appreciated! :)

1. I get a regular expression related error while using the Search and Replace function, even though the Use regular expressions option is unchecked.
The same problem occurs even after closing and restarting Trados.

2. When I tick the Use regular expressions option and then try to find ‘\s\(’ and replace it with ‘\(’, it does it with ‘\(’ instead of ‘(’.
So I try to find ‘\s(\()’ and replace it to ‘\1’, I get an error saying that ‘\1’ is not a valid regular expression.

We can process them easily using Trados (2022 and 2024), but we ca't find a way to extract "preview texts" included between the following tags:

These tags are often embedded in href or xref tags, but we couldn't identify a specific root element or path.

Any attempt to create custom file types failed so far.

Any ideas on how to solve this?
