I have a query regarding a Chinese translation within a MIF file. For one of our main clients we always translate from EN to ZH (simplified). We do so by importing their MIF files into Trados Studio, so we basically translate the text in XLIFF format and then save the target file (MIF).

So far we haven't had any problems and we have been working with them for years. However, we now took care of two translation jobs that weren't done as easily as usual. Our client gets question marks as text instead of Chinese symbols. 

When opening the final version in Trados Studio, we can see the correct Chinese Symbols, but all they can see is question marks and other symbols. We already tried working with an older version of the MIF file: loading the translation that had been uploaded to the TM into the XLIFF file and then save it back to the target file. However, unfortunately this wasn't an easy solution to this problem.

Our contact said they made the MIF files with their usual fonts, so this shouldn't be a font problem, although a lot indicates it is. Please find below a screenshot of the text our client sees in their files.

Is there anyone who has experience with this problem and can help me out?
