I am not sure why Trados developers are so difficult to persuade that this is a must have feature.

Just to respond to this bit... it has 6 votes!  Why do you think this would persuade Trados developers to anything on this when they already have a backlog of work that is clearly more important than this.

1. Thank you for pointing this out. I have started using it.

2. On the downside, it is not information that is available "at a glance" as accessing it involves leaving Editor View, selecting the project, clicking on a tab, a selection from a drop-down menu (percentage seems to revert to words on each Trados restart), etc.

3. So implementing a visual solution with a project progress indicator bar next to each project's name would be better. Speaking from memory, it is also the solution implemented by other major CAT tools.

4. However, probably the simplest and most useful implementation would be to include a project progress percentage indicator in the lower right corner of the Editor view next to the statistical data for the currently opened file:

In that way, the translator can check his or her progress related to the whole project with a single glance at the stats. With big projects this is done a dozen times per working day.

6 votes is actually not so bad compared to the number of votes other suggestions have. Don't you agree that this is an important feature to have – especially if the information is available in the Editor View? I would use it on a daily basis as, I am sure, most other linguists would.

Whatever the case, I simply feel that before reaching for the stars simple functionalities and features need to be made available in Trados.

Maybe you can upvote the feature too? :)

Hi Pavel Tsvetkov,

Maybe a little feature in the Studio editor (unfortunately disabled by default) might help you with your problem. While a file is open, double-click the status bar at the bottom right of your screen:

A small window pops up where you can set the display to "Both", i.e. both the percentage and the number of words in the different categories will be shown.

The cool thing about it is that this count updates with every segment you confirm and that all files opened together are taken into account. So if your project consists of multiple files and you open them together (which is highly advisable), you will see your progress by simply looking at the status bar.
