RWS AppStore down

I like to be understanding, but the inability to download from the appstore is totally unacceptable. This is the sort of outage that shouldn't last more than 15, 30 minutes max. We pay a LOT of money for your products, and it's your responsibility to have redundant systems that ensure services are available 24/7.

  • Of course you're right and I don't have an answer that will make things better.  One of the reasons for the work we have on the go at present is to make sure we can take all the systems that SDL and RWS have "inherited" and bring them into one modern and manageable solution that will have proper redundancy.  The scale of this task is huge, and whilst I understand your position I am also fully aware that this is a job that must be done.  So I can only apologise on behalf of RWS and hope that the teams will be able to find a way to get things back online as quickly as possible.

  • Would it not be possible to have duplicate systems, and update the one while leaving the other alone, then swap systems after a successful update? Other service providers manage this sort of thing somehow.

As an emergency solution, it would be possible just to copy all the app installation files to an FTP server and give folk access to that, the only restriction being that developers couldn't upload new or updated versions of their apps.

  • It's always easy to make suggestions without having any idea of how complex this problem really is.  I can assure that we do have a very competent IT team across our business and if it was this simple we would have done it.  The appstore itself is a very small part of the backend we use for this part of our business, and is only one of many systems with some very complex integrations that form the overall solution.

We are considering how we can make apps available to our users if the problem looks as though it won't be fixed soon, but it won't be via ftp.
