I'm attempting to import 8 files to Trados Studio 2022 for translation, but keep getting the error: "Object reference not set to an instance of an object". I've followed advice found (2017) to repair Trados, but the error still appears.

Try adding the files one at a time and see if the problem is all the files or just one or two in particular?
Also worth a reset if you don't think it's a file problem as this can often curea multitude of ills. To do this just close Trados Studio and then rename this folder:
c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0\
to c:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0_old\
Finally restart Trados Studio and try to add your files to a new project again
