Failed to export Excel file from SDL Trados

Dear Technical team,

SDL Trados Studio has been re-installed on my laptop for a few days.

The only issue I face is fail to Save Target as / Export the translation outcome of MS Excel format.

It is Ok with other MS formats.

Looking forward to your support.

Regards,

Tan

  • Dear Oana Nagy,

Yes, I do receive the error message: Failed to save target content: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

The fault occurs with the Excel files / projects only, including a brand-new MS Excel file.

Following the RWS community instruction, I changed the order of the sheets within Excel file, but it does not help.

Recently I re-installed all the software into my upgraded laptop, including SLD Trados Studio. The fault occurred after that.

It was normal with my old laptop.

For the other MS formats (Word, Powerpoint…), it is Ok.

It is possible to translate as usual on Excel file, just issue with the final step to Export / Save Target As the translation result.

Looking forward to your prompt reply.

    Thanks.

  • Hi  ,

    Apologies for the late reply.

Do you still have the issue persistent? If so, can you please provide a sample of the Excel file that fails to save target, so that I can try and test from my side?

    Thank you

  • Dear Oana,

As above-described in detail, when "Save Target As" to get / export the translation result, this message pops up. It means that I fail to export the translation result on Excel file.

Hope to receive your support. Thanks.

Trados Studio error message dialog box saying 'Failed to save target content: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.' with an 'OK' button.

Just a quick tip to help you... when you reply tag whoever was kind enough to offer you help so they definitely know you responded.  Type the @ and then the people in the thread will be presented to you so you select the person you wish to tag.

Another tip is when there is a suggested answer (even if it's not an answer and is just marked that way):

Screenshot of a Trados Studio support forum post by Nguyen Thanh Tan reporting an issue with saving target asexporting MS Excel format, with a highlighted suggested answer.

you can click on the "More" link and reject it:

Close-up of a dropdown menu with the option 'Reject Answer' highlighted, indicating the action to reject a suggested answer in a support forum.

When you do this the thread will keep getting reported in the unanswered thread reports we use to see if users have had their questions answered.  Whilst we don't have any obligation to answer questions... this is a community after all... we do our best!  So you can help yourself a bit by making it easier for us to try and help you, otherwise it's hard to keep track of all the things we're doing.

Just following up on this one.  I tested your files with Oana and I cannot do anything to get the target from your project with versions 2015 upwards.  However, if I recreate the project from your source file and then pre-translate against the content from the project you provided then it saves easily.

So I think the solution here is to simply do that!  If this problem is happening with every project containing Excel files that you create then you clearly have a bigger problem and we'll engage a support engineer to look at this for you.

  •  ,  ,

At the suggestion of  , the re-installation was done last week. But failed, the fault still persisted.

During the re-installation process, the MS Office 2003/2007 have been observed to SKIP, as in the below image.

    Do need your urgent attention.

    Thanks.

Screenshot of Trados Studio installation process with 'Installing Microsoft Office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies' and 'Installing Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies' options skipped, highlighted by a red rectangle.
