xlf file segmentation in Trados Studio 2019

Question

Please can you tell me how to change the segmentation in xlf files in Trados Studio 2019. When I import the file, practically the entire text appears in one segment. It slows Studio down and is slow and clunky to navigate. 
 I want to break up this segment into smaller chunks.

 If the XLF doesn&rsquo;t contain source and target segments get then you could probably copy the source onto the target, and then create a custom XML filetype to translate the target only. 
 If you had a more recent version of Studio then you could probably use the multilingual XML filetype from the AppStore and then you could also handle an XLF with source and target segments already in the file.

 It would help if you confirmed whether or not the XLF contains source AND target segments or not. That is what makes this difficult and memoQ will not handle this elegantly either!

 There already is one if you have Trados Studio 2022 at least. The Multilingual XML filetype will segment on the source based on whatever rules you are using and if you do have target content in the XLF already that will remain unsegmented and get dumped into the first segment for you to address manually.

 I will delete the files from your posts. But to show you how to do this I anonymised your file and then went through the process in the video below. I just reinstalled afresh all my applications and seem to have some issue with our internal SSO so forgive me the errors at the end... but I used pseudo-translation to at least demonstrate how this would work in practice.

 Yes... they could stop using CDATA dumps. But this would involve work on their end they may not be prepared to do. Dumping as CDATA is easy for them... tricky for the translator. 
 Bit they could also ensure that the source is always provided in the target element. If they did this you could avoid the first part of the video where I put the content from the source into the target. That way the files would be ready for you and you could simply create your projects with the custom XML and translate as normal. This should be simple for them and would definitely make your life easier.
