QA Checkers 3.0 : How do I setup punctuation to ACCEPT Non-breaking space before colon (:)

Everytime I'm working on a translation from ENG to FR_canadian, I get a warning or an error regarding SPACE before colon. As you probably know, the non-breaking space is a mandatory rule to respect when writing in French. Whatever I click or unclick in these settings, I still receive it. I was thinking this specified line/box "Verification for French (spaces are voluntary) was about that. Is there a way to set this to get the NBSP accepted before the colon? Thanks for any advice or workaround solving this!

    Hello,

It seems like you're having trouble with the QA Checker 3.0 in Trados Studio 2024 (v. 18.0.1.2259) when translating from English to French Canadian. You're receiving warnings or errors regarding a space before a colon, which is a mandatory rule in French.

Here's how you can adjust the settings to accept a non-breaking space before a colon:

Step 1: Open Trados Studio and go to "File" > "Options" > "Verification" > "QA Checker 3.0" > "Punctuation".

Step 2: In the "Check for intentional spaces before:" section, make sure the box for "colon" is checked.

Step 3: In the "Spaces" section, check the box for "Non-breaking space".

Step 4: Click "OK" to save your changes.

Please note that these changes will only apply to future projects and documents. To apply these settings to existing projects or documents, you need to go to "Project Settings" > "Verification" > "QA Checker 3.0" > "Punctuation" and repeat the steps.

If you're still receiving warnings or errors after making these changes, it's possible that there may be an issue with the software. In this case, I would recommend checking for updates within the application.

  • There is no such thing as a box for "Non-breaking space" in the "Spaces" section. See image attached previously. I ticked and unticked boxes #3 and #4 in the Final punctuation section.

    Hello,

I apologize for the confusion. It seems there was a misunderstanding in my previous response. You're correct, there isn't a specific option for "Non-breaking space" in the "Spaces" section of the QA Checker 3.0 settings.

The issue you're experiencing might be due to the specific punctuation rules for French Canadian. In Trados Studio, the QA Checker 3.0 uses predefined punctuation rules based on the target language. For French, it expects a space before colons, which is why you're receiving warnings or errors.

    Here's what you can do:

Step 1: Go to "File" > "Options" > "Verification" > "QA Checker 3.0" > "Punctuation".

Step 2: In the "Check for intentional spaces before:" section, make sure the box for "colon" is checked.

Step 3: In the "Final punctuation" section, uncheck the boxes for "Space before final punctuation" and "Space after final punctuation".

Step 4: Click "OK" to save your changes.

These changes should prevent the QA Checker 3.0 from flagging a non-breaking space before a colon as an error. However, please note that these settings will only apply to future projects and documents.
