Display issue in PDF converter with Studio 2024 - Scrollbar missing: I cannot select the right option

I'd like to convert scanned PDF files with Studio 2024 - 18.0.2.3255

With trados 2019 I could do this without any problem and without using other tools.

Trados 2019 : I can use the scroll bar to select what I want (Problem characters)

Screenshot of Trados Studio interface showing project configuration options with a PDF file selected in the background.

Studio 2024 : the page is incomplete, there's no scrollbar so I can't select what I want (and I don't know what's configured because it's not visible).

Screenshot of Trados Studio default project settings with various file type options displayed on the left panel.

Preview of every scanned document in Studio 2024 - high quality scan:  (The same documents are converted in Word - editable text - without problem in Trados 2019)

Screenshot of Trados Studio showing an incomplete preview of a PDF document with missing scrollbar and content.

I have tried with the PDF Assistant for Trados. I have Microsoft 2019 and not Microsoft 365.

The conversion doesn't work, it's never finalized.

What should I do? Reinstall Studio 2024? Uninstall Trados 2019? (I continue to use it to convert files...)

Thank you for your help!

Serena

"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more information about the exact version of Trados Studio 2024 you are using, the operating system of your computer, and any error messages you might be receiving. Also, it would be helpful to know if there have been any recent changes to your system or software.

In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:

    Hello Serena,

It seems like you're experiencing an issue with the PDF converter in Trados Studio 2024. The scrollbar missing issue might be due to the new underlying technology used to convert PDF files in Trados Studio 2024.

Here are some steps you can try:

Step 1: Ensure that your Trados Studio 2024 is updated to the latest version. You can check for updates within the application.

Step 2: If you're working with non-Latin based languages, make sure to tick the new checkbox "Use alternative processing" in the PDF File-type configuration.

Step 3: If you're dealing with scanned PDF documents, the support for OCR (optical character recognition) is limited. If the text in the document is selectable, the technology should be able to convert it. If not, you might need to use a third-party solution like Abbyy Fine Reader or Readiris, or the built-in PDF conversion in Microsoft Word.

Step 4: You can also try using the new PDF converter app available in the RWS AppStore. You can find more information about this app and instructions for use on the RWS Community page.

Step 5: If none of the above steps work, you might need to reinstall Trados Studio 2024. Before doing so, make sure to back up all your important files and settings.
