"Question improvement suggestion": Please provide more details such as the version of Trados Studio you are using, the steps you are taking to convert the PDF to Word, any error messages you are receiving, and if there have been any recent changes to your system or software.
In the meantime, based on the information you have provided, here is a suggested answer to your question:
Hello Olga,
The issue you're experiencing with PDF documents not converting into Word could be due to several reasons. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot:
Step 1: Ensure you're using the latest version of Trados Studio. You can check for updates within the application.
Step 2: Try to convert a different PDF file to Word. If the issue persists with multiple files, it might be a software issue. If it's only happening with a specific file, the issue might be with that particular PDF.
Step 3: If you have the original document that was used to create the PDF, such as a Word file or an InDesign document, try to translate that directly. This could save you a significant amount of work.
Step 4: If the original document is not available, you may need to manually edit the Word document generated from the PDF to correct formatting issues before starting the translation process. Tools like Trans Tools from the RWS AppStore can assist in cleaning up the document.
Remember, PDFs are not always the best source format for translation due to potential formatting issues. If possible, always try to obtain the original source file for translation.

AI reply might or might not have answered your question. The PDF file type changed from 2022 to 2024, and it does not do OCR any more.
If you are using Trados 2024, use this free app: https://appstore.rws.com/Plugin/197
Alternatively, convert the PDF to DOCX (Word) using Acrobat Pro, if you have that. It's always good to clean up the resulting DOCX before translating.
Hope this helps,
Daniel
As the PDF issue comes up a lot in this forum, it might be worth updating this very well-ranking article from Emma Goldsmith https://www.trados.com/blog/how-to-translate-a-pdf-in-trados-studio/. It's accurate for Trados Studio 2019-2022, but I think a lot of 2024 users are surprised that the familiar workflow does not produce the expected results.

Might be one Emma Goldsmith might be interested to update :-) But if not... might be worth one indeed.
