After my lunch break, I was unable to open this large file (a novel) that I had translated 88% of. View the error message in a screenshot below. My deadline is approaching, so I need to restore this file as soon as possible. What can I do?

Freelance literature translator: Is trados even for me?

I've been testing Trados studios for a month now, and frankly, I'm underwhelmed. I'm a freelance literature translator, and as of now, the only good thing that comes out of it for me is the user interface, which is slightly more comfortable than translating from page to page.

Are there any literature translators here using Trados studios?

As of now, it has only made life harder for me.

It starts with input: I usually translate from pdf master prints (so the pages look like the pages in a printed book); it's a hell of a lot of work to clean them up, and about a quarter of the time, the segments still don't match up with the sentences or are broken by page numbers. Combining segments is a pain (having to press Ctrl.+enter for every single line).

Similarly, the shortcut for accepting a translation needs both hands, which slows me down extremely.

Trados hides the structure of the text: I can't see paragraphs. Often, that makes it hard to understand who is speaking in dialogue.

After translating a few hundred pages, I still get only very few matches, and the ones I get are useless - okay, it's great that Trados can confidently translate "Chapter 5". But really, it's not such a great help. Even worse, matches for short sentences like "Come on!" or "I don't know" are usually presented as 100% confident, but in context, most of the time they are just wrong. And when I change them, next time trados doesn't offer me a list of possible matches (which would actually be useful), but instead only the last translation I used. Again, this is worse then useless. As is offering me partial matches - changing them is more trouble then just translating the sentence myself.

Worst of all is trados insisting on formatting the output like the original file. I don't want any formatting in the output. I just want text. The formatting gets in the way and creates mistakes downstream. But if there's a way to tell trados that I just want text output, and that I want paragraph control, I can't find it.

Basically, I'm wondering if I don't understand trados at all, or if I should just get rid of it and warn all literary translators away from it.

For the past few hours, I've been having problems with the match search in the Termbank (F3) or in the translation memory. The result appears for 1 to 2 seconds and then disappears.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Missing reference tag within the segment

I am translating an SDLXLIFF file from English into German in the freelance version of Studio 2024 (Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.3.6657).

The SDLXLIFF file was created by an agency from an IDML source file using an older version of Studio (Studio 2019, if I remember correctly).

When trying to Finalize the file, I receive the message

Missing '<anchorref id="u47c9"/>' reference tag within the segment ID '17-19'. Please run the Tag Verification to see details.

When setting the View settings to "Full Tag Text", there don't appear to be any tags in those segments.

And when I run Review > Quality Assurance > Verify, I am informed "Verification complete. No errors were reported."

What am I missing?

unable to reset window layout

Hello,

I have used two screens and somehow the layout got mixed up. I have tried "Reset Window Layout" without success. Of course, I can still continue to work, but when using the "Advanced display filter" (Under "View"), the results do not show up.

Any ideas you might have to solve the problem are appreciated! I am using Trados Studio 2022.

XML Settings: Is it possible to make segment information copyable

Greetings everyone,

We are regularly working with Schema ST4 XMLs. Also regularly, there is a need for queries for certain segments.

Unfortunately, the segment content itself is often not enough for the customer to identify the affected content block in ST4. I would therefore like to add the "tmnsnode id" as additional information in Studio (Attribute "id" of XML element "tmsnode").
I succesfully adjusted the file type settings to make this work - but that information can only be displayed, not copied.

Example:

Is there any way to make this information not just pop up on click on also copyable to clipboard? After all, this ID does not help the translator at all, but should be easily included in any query to the customer.

My only remaining idea would be to write a Studio plugin for a custom popup information box with copyable list items. :-?

SDL Studio 2019 - Error "Service 'Sdl.TranslationStudio.Api.ProjectManagement.IProjectManagementService' could not be started"

SDL Studio 2019, and I keep encountering Error "Service 'Sdl.TranslationStudio.Api.ProjectManagement.IProjectManagementService' could not be started".

Step 1. I have completely closed Trados Studio and started it again, but the problem still remains.

Step 2: I navigated to the folder C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\15 (with hidden items visible), but the issue did not change.

Step 3: I renamed the Plugins folder to Plugins_old, however the same error still occurs.

Step 4: I also ran a repair installation of Trados Studio via Control Panel > Programs and Features, but this did not resolve the problem either.

Step 5: I restarted my computer and tried opening Trados Studio again, but the problem persists.

Step 6: I have uninstalled and reinstalled Trados Studio 2019, and the error persists!!!!!

Can someone help??

Bonjour, j'utilise Trados 2024 en local. depuis ce matin je n'arrive pas a enregistrer de nouveaux termes depuis Trados dans ma base multiterm.

Lorsque je selectionne le segment source et le segment cible et que je les enregistre avec ctrl+F2, Trados plante.

Si le terme source est deja enregistré dans ma base et que je veux rajouter le terme traduit, il n'y a pas de plantage.

Si j'ouvre ma base via Multiterm et que je fais ajouter une nouvelle fiche. j'inscrit mon terme source et je suis obligée d'attendre tres tres tres longtemps et de forcer l'arret car rien ne se passe. c'est tres genant

auriez vous une solution?

Studio 2022 doesn't include all files in a return package

Studio 2022 doesn't include all files in a return package, just one out of about 20. There is no error message. I didn't even realise anything was wrong until the client complained. And now I cannot find any settings or way to make Studio include all the files. I have not changed any file names and they are all translated 100%. In the Create Return Package dialogue, all the files are checked. But only the first one is included in the package. Can someone please help? Thanks

Studio 2021, connection to TM gets lost after first file

When I open a World server package and start to tranlate the first file, everything works. When I start to translate the other files in the package, connection to all TM, local and online, is lost, and I get a list of errors. Then I close the error window and translate, but I wonder what is the matter.

PSD Export Font Error

Hello!

I'm having a hard time working with PSD files. I used to get some odd errors, but I figured that could be because I didn't have the right font. Now, I got the fonts that are used in the original PSD (and installed them to my Windows). I tried in Krita, and the font works on my system: I can edit and type using it on my machine.

However, something odd still happens when I take one of these PSDs through Trados: the font that is in the import file gets mapped into some default font, like Times New Roman or similar, i.e., the input font does not get preserved. I no longer get any errors in the PSD import/translation/export process, just the font in the target file has been changed.

Insofar as I can see, there are no settings to force mapping of any font using the PSD file.

To be clear, I want my exported file to use exactly the same font with the translated text as in the source file. How can I achieve this?

This is using Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.3.6657.

Need guidance on Alternate installation locations for Trados Studio 2022 (not Documents folder inside of OneDrive)

Looking for support on installing/setting up Trados Studio 2022 for myself and colleague at a large institution. We each have a software license for Trados studio 2022 for our own devices but would like to set up trados projects and related files to live on a Server to share work/collaborate, and want to avoid OneDrive. We want to Know if a shared Box.com folder or directory in a Shared 'SharePoint folder' is possible at setup given the above.

Issue:
We want to avoid standard installation in Windows 11 that places Trados files in the Documents folder by default, which is inside our OneDrive folders that sync at the enterprise level where we work. The constant syncing of OneDrive when running Trados studio 2019 caused many freeze-ups and glitches we want to avoid for Trados Studio 2022.

Autosave folders/files and Termbase Folders that 'live' in Windows>Documents>SDL folders have caused syncing errors and glitches in our prior use of 2019 that prevent us from completing the workflow, using termbases, using TM's, etc. We didn't have any shared server of project files before - only individual setups on each of our machines.

Questions:
Can we set up Trados Studio 2022 and both select a box.com or Sharepoint drive shared folder as the default TB, Autosave, and project folder destination? What Trados 2022 files 'NEED' to live in windows on each of our devices and what files can default to a network/cloud drive folder like box.com or Sharepoint?
What issues might this cause?
Is a local shared network drive better?
How can we each set up Trados Studio 2022 so project files are in a shared location we can both access without ''sync'' issues?

Trying to review a Ko>En project(single sdlxliff file).

I have never seen this kind of strange row height ever.

Actually it works but, looks quite ugly.

How can I make it to normal ?

In Trados Studio 2024 Professional SR1 when using Ctr+C in the project setup window the text is cut and not copied

From the very beginning of Trados Studio 2024 the usual Windows shortcut for copy does not work. I like to copy a part of the file path to use it as a project name, but insted of copying, it gets deleted thus destroying the path and not having anything to paste in the project name pane.

Could this be fixed? We actually reported it to Trados team at Tekom 2025, but obviously this information did not manage to get out of the conference premises.

How to display text flagged as "no translation" in the Editor?

Hello,

I am working with Trados Studio 2024, and I am searching for a way to display texts in the Editor despite them being flagged as "do not translate":

We have a custom file type with an edit rule in the parser section that sets texts to "do not translate", and it works perfectly (with the following properties set in the "Edit Rule" dialog: "Translate" set to "No", "Tag type" set to "Structure", "Whitespace" to "Inherit from parent").

However, with the current setting, our translators may only be seeing the 1-2 sentences of a full text that are to be translated without any context, while the largest portion of the text will be invisible to them. This is not a good starting position for a good translation, so we would like to adjust the files in a way that all texts are displayed in the Edtor to provide the needed context, terminology, etc., with only the "do not translate" texts remaining untranslateable (maybe as "locked" texts?).

I saw that in the advanced settings of the parser rules, there seems to be a setting that might help, "ShowElementContent", but I have not been able to make it work (maybe because I do not know what to set as "Name", "Code" and "Description", or maybe because that section is not intended for this purpose?).

Is there any way to set this in Trados?

Laptop with Snapdragon processor delivered with Windows 11

Nowadays the leading brands Dell or Lenovo offer laptops with Snapdragon processors and Windows 11 Pro installed. These are interesting options compared to Intel based laptops, as the price is usually lower.

Has anyone tried to run Studio on such a laptop? Provided that people run Trados on Macbooks with Windows emulations, this should also work.

Hello all,

I recently bought a new laptop and I am having trouble saving my files in Trados. I translate, the segments are confirmed, but when I save in order to have an updfated sdlxliff file with my translations ready to submit to the client, I get the following error:

Access to the path
'C:\Users\silvi\AppData\Local\Temp\b38cada5-606c-4438-ab3b-4913683373cb_0-34110-TCT-001.zip.0-34110-TCT-001.zip\source\Trados_..........docx_960261.sdlxliff' is denied.

Can you help me? I've already tried to change the folder where it should be saved at Project Settings>Project>Location, and the same error appears.

I have a deadline approaching, please help me.

Desde hace unas tres semanas no funciona Deepl en Trados Studio.

Primero no aceptaba la clave de autenticación de Deepl y me reportaba error y luego espontáneamente aceptó la clave, pero ahora al preparar los archivos para traducción no funciona. Simplemente la sección de traducción destino se queda en blanco.

Tengo la versión de Trados Studio 2024 SR1 - 18.1.3.6657
Deepl Translation Provider 7.1.5.0

La cuenta de Deepl está activa y funcional

He reinstalado el Plugin de Deepl sin resultados.

Por favor necesito su asesoría para resolver esto.

We would like to use the RWS built-in JSON file type for the translation of our release notes in JSON format. Most things are working correctly, but we have an issue with the segmentation after <br/> line breaks.

We would like to get the sentences with a <br/> break correctly segmented in two segments, but with the current settings from the built-in JSON file type they don't get segmented, but stay in one segment.

Is there a way to set up segmentation rules for the built-in JSON file type to have segmenation after <br/> tags?
