01.2 Troubleshooting unexplained errors and unwanted behaviour in Trados Studio/MultiTerm.

This Wiki article is designed for all users of Trados Studio/MultiTerm, who may be experiencing errors, erratic behaviour or other unexplained issues within Trados and is split into TWO parts-

Part-1- Updating the Operating System (OS) Microsoft Office and the device drivers.

Part-2- Trados Studio/MultiTerm- Updating and troubleshooting.

i  After completing each step, please reboot your machine to ensure all changes have been applied.

ii  Updating your machine can take up to a couple of hours. Please do not skip any of the steps suggested.

iii  Whilst following this guide, please disable your AntiVirus program temporarily.

iv You MUST be logged onto the machine as administrator to complete most of the following tasks.

Part-1- Updating the Operating System (OS)/Microsoft Office and the device drivers.

Windows updates

Trados Studio relies on your Windows operating system (OS)/Office version and drivers to be up to date.

You can check your OS update history by typing in Windows Update in the Windows Search Bar

To update your Windows OS, run the Windows Updater-

Even if you receive the message your Windows installation is up to date (maybe even today's date)- You MUST rerun 'Search for Updates' as this information does not mean your machine is up to date-simply only that a check has been made for updates- NOT that they have been installed.

Now go to Update History and check of everything has been downloaded AND Installed.

You may need to go through this process a number of times before your Windows OS is properly updated as many 'patch' installs fail on the first attempt.

Part-1-

MS Office Updates

Access your Windows Control Panel-

Then

Locate Microsoft Office...

Right Click and CHANGE

And now run Repair.

Once you have updated your OS and Office installation, you should now update your device drivers.

Part-1-

Device Driver Updates

Access the Device manager by typing in 'Device Driver Update' in Windows Search...

Now close all your programs and reboot your PC and restart Studio.

Part-1-

Microsoft.NET update

Normally when installing Trados Studio, this will automatically install the correct .net framework version required. However, this can fail for a number of reasons.

To check your current version and to ensure this is up to date...Trados Studio 2021 for example, needs .NET 4.8.* to run (Trados Studio 4.7.2)

DO NOT CHANGE /RENAME or DELETE any registry entries as this can cause total PC failure!

And now click OK-

Now navigate to the following address and view the installed version

Please note:

You may see multiple versions of .NET installed. This is normal and older versions should NOT be deleted.

If you do not have .NET 4.*.* installed- this means that when installing Studio something has failed during the installation process and you will need to install the .NET framework manually.

You can download and manually install .net Framework from Microsoft-

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4073120/microsoft-net-framework-4-7-2-for-windows-10-version-1709-and-windows

Your machine should now be fully up to date- Now it's time to move on to Part 2
