SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU1 | Missing format painting coming from Machine Translation prevents translations' inclusion in the ITD

Symptoms:
When the format painting is broken or missing, the ITD is prevented from being rebuilt. Consequently, the content from the matches from the Machine Translation engine are reverted in the SDL TMS database and therefore they are not included in the ITD file.

Explanation:
After matches are returned from the Machine Translation engine, they are transferred into the ITD file. If the format painting is broken, this transfer cannot happen. The merge mechanism is not tolerant of missing format painting and as a result, the changes coming from the Machine Translation engine are rolled back.

Resolution:
The fix makes SDL TMS more tolerant for format painting mismatching and therefore matches from the Machine Translation engine are kept.

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 | Hotfix for defect TMS-6072 - Wrong target files generated for content types using the HTML 5 Embedded Content Processor

Symptoms:
In some cases, the Rebuild Translation stage creates an incorrect target file by ignoring some of the custom settings from the HTML 5 embedded content processor.

This behavior occurs for Studio Packages downloaded and then uploaded back into SDL TMS as return packages containing tasks created with custom Content Types based on a Custom XML (Embedded Content) that uses an HTML 5 embedded content processor.

Explanation:
When creating the Studio Package, SDL TMS normalizes all the line endings in the SDL XLIFF file and turns all the UNIX® line endings into Windows® line endings. This in turn affects the HTML 5 embedded content processor settings when rebuilding the target file.

Resolution:
Line endings are now preserved as they are in the SDL XLIFF and no longer influence the Rebuild Translation stage for content types using the HTML 5 embedded content processor. This hotfix is targeting TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 implementations. You can find the prerequisites for this hotfix here: Filter Update for SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 (February 2015) .

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 | Edit Content Types page - included/excluded extension validation lifted

Symptoms:
On the Edit Content Type page, both fields named Included Extensions and Excluded Extensions would not allow more than 50 characters, forcing users to create multiple Content Types when actually one would be sufficient to capture all needed extensions in those fields.

Explanation:
The Content Type Edit page has a validation that restricts the content of that field to 50 characters.

Resolution:
The validation has now been lifted to enable a more user-friendly usage of Content Types.

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 | Status and Last Refresh sometimes not updating correctly for the GroupShare Inbox in SDL TMS

Symptoms:
Sometimes in SDL TMS within the GroupShare Inbox, the Status may not update or the date of the Last Refresh may be incorrect.

Explanation:
When the server hosting the SDL TMS application and the server hosting the TMS Microsoft® SQL database do not share the same date format, the following errors may occur:

Status not updating
- The current date and time on the operating system (OS) hosting the SQL Server is set to an Invariant Culture format like: 03/17/2015 15:39:05 (Tuesday March 17 2015, 3:39:05 PM).
- The date format in the regional settings of the user account running the TMS services is different from the Invariant Culture format. For example, in the case of en-GB, the month and date are reversed compared to the Invariant Culture format. In the above example, the expected representation of the current time would be: 17/03/2015 15:39:05.
- When retrieving the status, the conversion from the Invariant Culture format to the en-GB format fails with an exception because 17 is an invalid month.
As a consequence, the status update process is aborted and the Status displayed in the GroupShare Inbox is incorrect.
Incorrect Last Refresh date
- The current date and time on the OS hosting the SQL Server is set to an Invariant Culture format like: 03/12/2015 15:39:05 (Thursday March 12 2015, 3:39:05 PM).
- The date format in the regional settings of the user account running the TMS services is different from the Invariant Culture format. For example, in the case of en-GB, the month and date are reversed compared to the Invariant Culture format. In the above example, the expected representation of the current time would be: 12/03/2015 15:39:05.
- When converting from the Invariant Culture format to the en-GB, no error is displayed because 12 is a valid month.
As a consequence, the value shown in the GroupShare Inbox for the Last Refresh is wrongly displayed as: 03/12/2015 15:39:05 (namely, Saturday December 12, 2015 3:39:05 PM).

Resolution:
The solution proposed in this hotfix allows proper handling of date/time mismatches between servers, thus enabling users to read correct Status and Last Refresh information in the GroupShare Inbox.

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 | GroupShare Inbox not displaying jobs and tasks in SDL TMS

Symptoms:
Sometimes, in an environment set up correctly, users can see the tasks assigned to them in the traditional TMS inbox, but when opening the GroupShare Inbox, no jobs or tasks are displayed, except for the message:

The server took too long to send the data.

Explanation:
If the initial data retrieval took more than 5 seconds, the GroupShare Inbox would time out and therefore no jobs and no tasks would get displayed.

Resolution:
The timeout has now been increased to 30 seconds.

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 | Unable to roundtrip Studio Packages using Spanish - International (ES-XM) as source or target language

Symptoms:
It is not possible to roundtrip Studio Packages that use "Spanish --International--" (ES-XM) after :

applying Hotfix #36470 to TMS 2011 SP5 CU1
or
upgrading to TMS 2011 SP5 CU2.

Explanation:
"Spanish --International--" (ES-XM) is a language supported only by SDL TMS. In the *.sdlxliff file, the source/target language is identified as "es"."es" does not exist in SDL Trados Studio but when opening the Studio Package, SDL Trados Studio tries to recognise this language and by default maps it to "Spanish (Spain, International Sort)" whose code is "es-ES".

Uploading the Return Package from SDL Trados Studio to SDL TMS fails because the SDL TMS language detection mechanism is mapping the "es" language code to Spanish (Spain, International Sort) instead of "Spanish --International--". This language conflict determines the task upload to fail.

Resolution:
The SDL TMS language detection mechanism can now map "es" to "Spanish --International--", thus allowing files to upload successfully.

Exceptionally, two versions of that hotfix have been made available, one for TMS 2011 SP5 CU1 + hotfix 36470 and one for TMS 2011 SP5 CU2.

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 | Tasks stuck at "Moving to next stage" status

Symptoms:
When submitting concurrently large amounts of tasks to the next stage, some tasks are stuck in the Moving to next stage status.

Explanation:
A Batch Submit can contain up to 1,000 tasks per request. If the user tries to submit more than 1,000 tasks at the same time, several Batch Submit requests are created. For example, when submitting 2,300 tasks, there will be 3 batches created: two of 1,000 tasks each and another batch of 300 tasks.

The Batch Submit process has a retry mechanism: if it fails the first time, SDL TMS will retry 3 times. When retrying, SDL TMS processes exactly the same Batch Submit request, trying to process tasks that were already processed fine the first time - whereas this is not needed – and then retries two other times. However, SDL TMS sometimes never gets to process the next tasks, therefore failing and leaving tasks in the Moving to next stage status. The speed at which those Batch Submit requests are processed varies from one TMS implementation to another, depending on the server(s) used.

Resolution:
The solution provided in this hotfix identifies the tasks getting processed fine and removes them from the Batch Submit request used by the retry attempts. Therefore, if SDL TMS cannot process all tasks submitted concurrently by a user in the first attempt, the next attempt will focus only on the tasks not handled yet. Ultimately TMS manages to process all the tasks.

We are pleased to announce the release of a Filter Update for sdlxliff-based Content Types. This Filter Update applies to SDL Translation Management System 2011 Service Pack 5 Cumulative Update 2 (SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2).

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 now has the same set of sdlxliff-based filters as SDL Trados Studio 2014 SP2 CU8, released in February 2015 (see KB article #5375).

File uploads and stages like Rebuild Translation should continue to work fine for files pre- processed before applying this Filter Update. Symptoms:
When creating a job in SDL TMS using a Configuration supporting at least one non-wildcard Content Type and at least one wildcard Content Type that has no Excluded Extensions as well, tasks were created only for the files that matched the non-wildcard Content Types.

Explanation:
A chain of events was triggered at the database level and resulted in an incomplete list of available Content Types for job files to be associated with. The wildcard Content Types with no Excluded Extensions were missing.

Resolution:
Database level logic now allows for files to be associated with the available wildcard Content Types again.

We are pleased to announce the release of SDL Translation Management System 2011 Service Pack 5 Cumulative Update (CU) 2. For comprehensive information on this release, please be sure to consult the attached Release Notes and any other material and Knowledge Base articles referenced on this page.

As part of SDL’s strategy to deliver a consolidated localization ecosystem, we are pleased to announce that with this release, SDL TMS now integrates directly with SDL Studio GroupShare. Rather than having to manually download Studio Packages from SDL TMS, users can now, with a single click, publish translation packages to and retrieve translation packages from SDL Studio GroupShare from a new dedicated page in TMS. These automated operations increase productivity across the supply chain, deliver more control over the translation cycle and enable faster and more cost-effective collaboration. Detailed information about using the SDL TMS - SDL Studio GroupShare integration is available in the SDL TMS QSG - GroupShare Studio Integration attached to this article. The QuickStart Guide is also available in the SDL TMS – My Downloads section.

The creation of Studio Packages has been significantly enhanced and it is now possible to group tasks from multiple TMS jobs in the same Studio Package. As in previous versions of SDL TMS, Studio packages are still restricted by language pair. Additionally, the selected tasks must have in common the same cost banding and utilize the same Studio Project Template. Otherwise, separate packages are created per variance. The naming of Studio packages has also been improved. Information about the way SDL TMS names SDL Trados Studio Package is available in KB article 6464.

In addition, SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 further increases interoperability with SDL Trados Studio, now allowing the import of SDL XLIFF files into SDL TMS Translation Memories using the SDL TMS User Interface. These are uploaded as other supported import formats on the TM > TM Edit page.

Finally, SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 continues to support SDL Passolo 2011 SP9. It now also fully supports SDL Passolo 2015 and the .tbulic15 format. Additionally, the Export Wizard for both SDL Passolo 2011 and SDL Passolo 2015 has been modified to allow users to enter a user-friendly name for the jobs created in TMS. As for previous versions, the SDL TMS Add-ins for Passolo are available in SDL TMS under Home > My Downloads.

Prerequisites:
This release is available via an upgrade installer which will update your version of SDL TMS to the current release.

Before running the SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU2 upgrade installer, you must first install Microsoft® .NET Framework 4 Update on the server - for more details, see KB article 6149.

The main application software is dependent on Microsoft® .NET Framework 3.5, but the installer contains components which require a later version.

Installation and upgrade process:
Customers interested in upgrading to SDL TMS 2011 SP5 Cumulative Update 2 are encouraged to contact SDL Support to coordinate the assistance with pre-upgrade planning, custom component review and validation and upgrade execution and validation. If you have a Support and Maintenance contract with SDL, you can access SDL Support at the SDL Gateway.

This upgrade will restart the web server (IIS) and all SDL TMS services, so a short window of server downtime will be required. If you are installing on a multi-server environment, the database operations will only be performed during the installation on the first server.

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU1 | Hotfix for defect #36494 - SDLXLIFF: Update TM fails when updating a TM with an empty translation

Symptoms:
The Update TM stage fails for SDLXLIFF-based Content Types when trying to update a Translation Memory (TM) with an empty target segment (empty translation).

Explanation:
If an empty translation is submitted to the Update TM stage, the task is sent to Recovery because updating a TM with an empty translation is not supported for SDLXLIFF-based Content Types. ITD-based Content Types are not affected by this issue as the empty translation gets ignored.

Resolution:
Empty translations are now also ignored at the Update TM stage for SDLXLIFF-base Content Types. The Update TM stage continues processing without errors. For technical reasons, this hotfix requires the below prerequisites to be installed:

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU1 | Hotfix for defect #36346 – Issues with IE11 when confirming segments or using keyboard arrows in the TI

Symptoms:
In the Translation Interface (TI), when using Internet Explorer® 11 (IE11), confirming segments by pressing the Enter key applies a carriage return (new line) within the segment. The Up/DownLeft/Right arrow keys do not allow the user to navigate through the interface or un-confirm segments.

Explanation:
Certain keyboard actions differ in behavior in IE11 compared to other browsers.

Resolution:
The segment confirmation operation was changed in order to function properly in IE11. Pressing Enter no longer inserts an extra line. The Up/Down arrow keys enable the user to navigate through target segments and Left/Right arrow keys enable the user to un-confirm segments.

SDL TMS 2011 SP5 CU1 | Hotfix for defect #36470 - For some languages, SDL TMS doesn't extract LiveContent (Trisoft) DITA content type

Symptoms:
For some languages, Trisoft DITA Content Type will send tasks to Exception at the Extract TC stage. The Task History displays the following message:

The language may not be supported on this system. Check the format of the file is correct and that it has been submitted using the correct encoding.

Explanation:
In SDL TMS, during the Extract TC for SDLXIFF-based Content Types, if an error occurs when retrieving the matching file type definitions, the task is sent into the Exception stage. For this particular case, an error is returned stating that one of the languages, source or target, is not recognized by the system.

Resolution:
Even if errors occur when retrieving the matching file type definitions, for the current task, it is possible that at least one definition is found. Therefore, SDL TMS will be more tolerant: any error will be logged into the debug tms logs and SDL TMS will continue extracting the file content.

If no definition is still not found, Extract TC will still be sent into the Exception stage.

Symptoms:
While Pre-processing legacy XLS files, some formatting is lost. Reported issues:

If the entire segment is formatted and the first word of the segment has an additional format, the formatting of the first word is lost.
If the cell starts with formatting, then the cell formatting is lost.
The space between two words with different formats is removed.

Explanation:
During the Extract TC stage for legacy XLS files, some formats are not properly interpreted by the SDL TMS XLS extract algorithm.

Resolution:
The algorithm has been modified to comply with all Microsoft Excel formatting requirements.
