I need to update an existing translation list (json) with a newer version, where the newer version contains more strings than the existing one. However, the "assign orphan segments" option under Alignment would not include those extra strings in the text list.
Can anyone help?

This is not the use case for the Assign orphan segments feature.
It is impossible to import new string entries that just exist in the translated target file with the Alignment feature.
You first have to Update your project with the new source file containing the new untranslated source string entries, before you can align translations from a changed translated file.
