Spelling checker in Draft Space: Status History

    Docs 14 SP4 introduces a few configurable functionalities for Draft Space. An additional Windows Service from Fonto to enable Content Quality add-on and Hunspell as a Spell Checker is available for editable content. It comes with en_US dictionary in OOTB product, it requires IshDeploy cmdlets to start/stop the Fonto Content Quality service and provides possibility to select components that should be spell checked. It is possible to set up replace a misspelled word with one from the suggestion list. It is also possible to create a list of individual words which are always considered valid and no suggestions are generated for words on this list.

    Thanks, Jeff. As Draft Space finds traction with more and more subject matter experts (including, as you note, users with English as a second language), this is an increasingly common request. Of course it was on our wishlist to support from the start, but the need to rapidly release even more crucial functionality first, plus some technical groundwork to do, meant that it's not there yet.

    I should backtrack a bit first – the smooth experience of Draft Space and the near-impossibility of producing not-well-formed or invalid XML, is achieved by taking over the whole text input functionality instead of relying on browser defaults. This means that plugins such as Grammarly cannot work consistently or completely. However, it does mean that this smooth experience can be brought to a native spellchecking feature that feels more like the rest of the tool and offers more functionality than just the browser plugins. This is exactly what our technical partner and in turn ourselves have been working on.

    Although it's foolish in software dev to guarantee an exact scope by an exact date, we're targeting to add this native spellchecker in the SP4 release later this year.
