SDL Trados Live Team: Summer Releases - Highlights

After the initial release of SDL Trados Live Team in May we wanted to take the opportunity to highlight key new additions to the Language Cloud platform in the last few months and which are now also available to all SDL Trados Live Team users.

Batch Actions

Users of the Customer Portal now have the opportunity to perform actions against a collection of projects, rather than repeating the same actions against each project individually. Batch Actions can be applied for project deletion, download and completion. The available actions will change dynamically as you select or de-select projects; the actions are dependent on the current status of the selected projects. For example, a user with two projects which can be downloaded may see this in the top left of the portal:

If these projects were available to complete or delete then the other buttons would also become active.

Task History

Task History is a new UI feature that allows project managers to see all the workflow steps that have been performed on a file. This provides a convenient way for project managers to audit what has happened to a file, which users have worked on it and which workflow tasks have been skipped. Here's an example of the Task History for a project:

The Task History can easily be sorted by date and also offers comprehensive filtering capabilities using the slide-out panel on the left of the screen that allows users to find exactly the information that they want:

Upload Reference Files

Even when a project is already in progress, it is now possible to add reference files to the project if, for example, extra information becomes available after the project has started. On the Files tab for the project, there is a button the allows the project manager to upload these files:

In the image above, you can see that some additional graphics have been uploaded to the project.

Reschedule Task

Sometimes, it's necessary to change the dates for a project; this could be to extend the delivery date due to unforeseen circumstances or even to set an earlier date. In either case, the project manager can now reschedule a task from the Stages tab of the project. Selecting a task presents a new button that can be used to change the due date:

Add-ons Store

Through the SDL Language Cloud platform, which powers SDL Trados Live Team, users no have access to an Add-ons Store when you click on your Avatar->Add-ons.
This enables administrators to browse Add-ons in the Store and install those in your account. In this first iteration, the Add-Ons Store allows integration with Machine Translation Providers, but in the future, we will allow additional types of Add-ons.

Google MT Provider

The first Add-on available in the Store is the Google Machine Translation Provider. Installing the Google Machine Translation Provider requires that you have created an API key in the Google Cloud Console. Once you have an API key, you can install and activate the Machine Translation Provider in your tenant. The Google Machine Translation Provider can then be used when creating or configuring a Translation Engine in SDL Trados Live Team.

To install the Google Machine Translation Provider, select it in the Add-ons Store and click the Install button. You will then need to provide the Google Service Account Key, the Google Project Id and, optionally, the Google Cloud Location (leave this blank to let Google choose for you). Clicking Activate will then make the Add-on available in your tenant.

New Tasks Overview section

The Project Details Dashboard now includes a new Tasks Overview section. Clicking on the numbers will take you directly to your inbox with a pre-applied filter to show only those files.

Customer Location

The full location is now visible in the Customers view which enables you to better understand the folder structure.

E-Mail file type support

We have introduced file type support for the following e-mail formats: *.msg, *.oft, *.eml, *.emlx

Project notes are now always available from Project Details view

Project notes make it easy for teams to collaborate and exchange information. Project notes are available from the Task inbox as well as Project details.

You can now open tasks in Online Editor directly from the stages view

This reduces the need to go into the Inbox to look at the details of a file assigned to a user.

Download target file from Online Editor

You can now download a target version of the file at any point from the Online Editor. This is helpful to Preview changes in offline tools for which we don’t currently provide an online preview, for example Adobe InDesign.

Additionally, this can be used to deliver a preliminary file if needed without the Workflow having completed.

Enhanced UX for working with Languages

We now remember the last 5 languages used per user, to make working with language selections easier.

You can now copy languages from language selection fields into another field.

Real-Time Microsoft PowerPoint Preview

SDL Trados Live Team now offers real-time Microsoft PowerPoint Preview (for PPTX and PPT source formats) when working on documents in the Online Editor. We have been able to achieve fidelity extremely close to the final result, while at the same time offering real-time navigation in both directions, if you edit a segment, the preview will update in real time, while if you select a sentence on the preview, it will jump to the respective segment in the Editor.

You can have the Preview show Side-by-Side as in the screenshot or below the Editor, by going to View->Preview and selecting the desired Preview option.

Find also a short demo video to see it in action!

Real-Time Microsoft Excel Preview

SDL Trados Live Team now offers real-time Microsoft Excel Preview when working on documents in the Online Editor.

Real-Time ODT (Open Document Text) Preview

Real-Time E-Mail Preview

Photoshop Preview

Real-Time Subtitle Preview

Real-Time JavaResources, JSON, YAML and Markdown Previews

The previews for these filetypes will pretty-print the content and give users additional context especially for Software strings.
