do not know how to import the translation that I had completed on the trial version

Hello,

I changed from a free-trial version of STUDIO to a yearly subscription. I forgot to bring with me the project I had been doing on the free-trial version. However, I have the source file and the target file (about 70% of text translated) saved on my laptop. I have created a new project in the subscription version of TRADOS but do not know how to import the translation that I had completed on the trial version. Can you point me to a YouTube video or some other answer?

Thanks.

  • Thank you both for being so patient with this technologically challenged soul.

You seem to need to learn computer basics like working with files and folders. This is absolutely necessary for a stress-free translation, not only with Studio. Studio requires a very systematical approach and does not really forgive errors. I would highly recommend you to attend a professional computer course, dealing specially with creating folders, storing files, copying and moving them around and so on. This is really crucial. When attended, you should create you own system for storing files and creating folders to keep your PC tidy. Believe me, if you do so, it will reduce the hassle. Acting systematically and planned can save you all the trouble many user report in connection with Studio. The vast majority of user problems with Studio result from lack of systematical approach and disorder in the file storage (or lack of understanging how file management in Windows works).

  • Never a truer word said! You are correct: I will have to sit down and study how it all works. There is more of the translator than the technologue in my bones, I'm afraid. But even old dogs sometimes manage to learn new tricks so there is hope for me perhaps!

    Many thanks.

  • The problem with translation nowadays is simply that you have to use technology for it. Even if you would not use any CAT tool, you must use a PC. And you need to use it in professional way, as you are a pro. A translation pro, of course, but a translation pro at a computer. Good luck for your study Slight smile
