Grammar checker returns ??? when errors

Question

Hi, 
 
 I installed the grammar checker plugin v1.3 for Studio 2015 SR2 12.2 on a new Windows 10 Pro (1607) PC. 
 However, each time I make a grammar error, all that this grammar checker shows are 3 question marks (???), but no description of the errors I made. 
 I also used the same version of Grammar Checker on a Windows 7 Pro PC ansd there Grammar Checker does indeed gives a description of the errors I made. 
 How can I make Grammar Checker work on my Windows 10 PC? Any suggestions?

Hi Eric, 
 We are investigating this in another thread at the moment. It may be that Office 365 is the culprit here as it does not provide all the components we need to be able to hook into the Word features. It works fine if you have the MSI version of Word installed. Andrea-Melinda Ghisa might be able to update this thread next week sometime.

We're struggling with this because we cannot reproduce the problem at all. We've installed various kinds of MSOffice, installed in different ways, and we don't have a problem. 
 However, maybe worth seeing if toggling this option makes a difference? So if it's checked uncheck it and run verification again:

 As Paul said we're struggling at this moment with the plugin because we can't reproduce the issue in order to fix it. 
 Could you please test this version, you'll receive a warning message because is not a signed plugin, is just a version for testing. I added a logging system to this version, hopefully we'll catch some errors. 
 
 After you test it could you please send me the log file, you can find it at this path: C:\Users\[UserName]\AppData\Roaming\SDL Community\GrammarChecker , where [UserName]- is your account name.

 One way to attract peoples attention is to name them by typing an @ symbol first and then their user name that you see when they post. You should get an email now saying you were mentioned in this thread. 
 Also, if you check your Activity tab then you will see all the threads you are personally involved in which is very handy, especially if you can't find something: 
 
 Stick with it... after you start to learn the little tricks it gets easier and I think this medium does offer a lot of advantages over Yahoo... never mind the fact this one is full of SDL people who are willing to help in addition to all the great answers we see from other users.

 Hmnnn... how do I phrase this in a different way. Type the @ symbol in your response to me and then without any spaces after the @ type paul filkin or pfilkin and you'll see you can select me from an autocomplete. When you post the message with my name in there like this I will receive an email saying something like "You were mentioned in conversation...." and I will have a direct link to the appropriate post. You don't have to do this, I was just mentioning it as a way to attract someones attention to the fact you wanted them to look at the thread.

 You don't have to. I was just mentioning this as a way to see the threads you were involved in and nothing else. Just makes it easier to find the relevant stuff when you do look.

 I know the feeling (on the twitter thing... and I use it a lot)... you have no idea!! 
 But on the usecase in here. Imagine you had a post that also fixed the problem a colleague had 6-months ago. You could draw their attention to it, or ask them to comment on it, but including their name even if they didn't have their notifications on for a particular forum. I only used it for you before because you were not getting notifications, so I wouldn't do it all the time. But it definitely has a use because you are in effect pushing information instead of relying on someone pulling it.

 The team has just been working on other things that took priority over this for the time being. we can't stay with one thing unless we are getting continual and immediate feedback and this is never going to happen in reality when we are working with so many apps. 
 We will come back to this, hopefully later this week. It is on our todo list.

 We think the problem is the language of word but we are not sure.

Hi Eric, 
 
The team are working on another project at the moment that we need to get completed and then we'll get back to this one. We believe the issue is language related as there is actually no complete API available in Microsoft to achieve the solution we have, so the original developer had to be creative and this meant hardcoding some of the calls to information that seems to be language specific based on the full version of Office and not just the language pack. 
 
So we have a plan to get hold of the full office versions in other languages, maybe NL, FR and DE at first, and then adapt the code to support these languages too. The first one may take a little while but hopefully others will be quicker once we have identified all the places this is causing an issue. 
 
There was a reason you won't find a grammar checker using MSWord integrated in any other tool!! 
 
We'll come back to you once we have got to the root of the issue and have something to test. Probably a week or two.

Hi Eric Wouters Micaela Novas and others interested in this plugin. I have an update from the developers who have been working on this, so perhaps you can verify the issue based on the information in here? 
 =================== 
 The biggest challenge for us at this moment is to try and reproduce the problem on our end. We managed to reproduce the problem but only without the appropriate language pack installed. Here's our testing process: 
 
 Installed a clean version of Windows 10. 
 Installed Trados Studio 2017 Professional 
 Download and installed office365 desktop client for office 2016
 
 We've tried with the english and french version. 
 We run the grammar checker on a Portuguese test file in our Beta Community. 
 We received the error described.

Download and install Portuguese language pack
 
 We run the grammar checker with no errors.

Based on the above test scenario we could only reproduce the problem when the appropriate language pack was not installed on the machine. So at this point our recommendation is to try and perform a clean install of your office suite followed by the installation of your appropriate grammar language pack. To install the correct language accessory pack please follow these instructions .
