What is the purpose of the setting "All responses - Answers Only"?

Hi

It recently happened very often that I realised after having read a thread that I hadn't seen all the replies. Then, I found out that this is due to the following setting:

It seems to be set by default to "Answers Only" and if one doesn't pay attention to this, he doesn't see the entire thread.

Can somebody please explain what the purpose of this setting is and whether its default value can be changed so that by default we can see the entire thread and not only part of it?

Thanks a lot.

  • Hi Walter,

It's there for a couple of reasons.

    1. When you create a question you can choose Question or Discussion
    2. If you choose Question then anyone answering it should tick the suggested answer box (I do this for you a lot as you never check it... but great you answer in the first place!!)
    3. This way you can filter on unanswered questions to find the ones nobody responded to. It also means you can see the ones that gave good answers and were possibly the right one.
    4. Once they are verified you can click on verify answer.  This way everyone knows the answer satisfied the question.
    5. The thread then switches to show answers only, but it only switches if the answer is verified.

Now, that's a quick set of things you can do... but the reason this is really useful is because some threads are very long.  So if you visit one where the answer is verified you are probably only interested in the answer.  Having this working the way it does means you get straight to it.  If the default was as you suggested then you'd be scrollong through all the thread trying to find the answer.

I think the default is the right one for most users.

There are some videos being ceated in this group that explain all about these kinds of things.

    Regards

  • Same here. Most people get annoyed by having to read the whole thread. So we elected just to show the answers by default.
