See all forum activity somewhere regardless of memberships

Option 1

I sure would love a way to turn on all possible email notifications. I had to go through product, by product, forum, by forum and add myself as a member if possible and then set the email digest options. In my profile I see that there is an area where i can easily change my digest options, but have found that i am only able modify digest options for groups that i am member of or groups that i am no a member of but have already specified digest options for. There is no way to in bulk, turn on email digest options for groups i am not a member of. This requires me to add myself to each of those groups and then if i am accepted i can see that i can add that, otherwise, the one by one approach is my only option. I'll tell you, even having to do this manually has netted me some wonderful results as i have seen all the activity that happens here on the forum each day and am seeing daily, things that i would otherwise have missed.

Option 2

An activity stream for the forums as a whole. However i'd like to see it in my email and i'd like to see each item not just the top 20 or so. (which could be a lot in a day)

  • Hey Eric,

Always welcome your ideas. On option 1: Go to your Avatar in the right hand corner. Select settings and go to the notifications tab. There, at the bottom, you see ALL forums available to you and you can toggle them ON or OFF. The indicator is a bit confusing but where you see "subscribe" you should read "subscribed". It is a state and not an action.

Option 2: I'm not sure I completely understand what you are asking. You are looking to have a forum activity stream with all forums you subscribed to in one page AND have a notification of each event in your inbox?
As it so happens I start working on the 2016 designs tomorrow and that is all about personalization.
Also I will be upgrading our environment this month and one of the features is that the email notification contains the source group name in the title so you can sort them into subfolders.

  • What i am looking for is to have a pulse on all the activity that happens on the community pages. As you mention this can be done for all the forums.

I have already done this for all forums that show up in that section.

What i think is lacking is what is available when you click the 'Email Digests' selection at the top of the profile settings screen.
doing this shows the following categories

    - Your Groups (all of the groups you are a member of)
    - Other Groups (groups you have a subscription to but are not a member of)
    - Forum Options (this seems to be a list of all forums on the community and is the same functionality as on the options portion of the settings page)

If you pay close attention to the categories noted above, one, in my opinion, is missing.
That category would be something like
All Groups (email digest options for groups you currently are not a member of nor have any configured email digest options for)

That way i can go through the 30-40 messages each day in my community folder in my email clients inbox and then know exactly what is going on at the forums at any time.

As i mentioned before i already painstakingly combed through each group and subgroup to do this and love the results.
I am apprehensive that as new groups are added, i'd have to comb through the entire site again to catch them. It would be nice if i could do it all in a single place.

Let me know if that's not clear.
  • OK, it is clear. That requires some thinking as this is core platform functionality. I will most certainly pick it up as design consideration. Great info
