I don't think we do assume this. AI is essentially a program and it will perform or react in the way it's been programmed. So the database, the language models, the corpus it refers to, these will all affect its responses. Lets say you have a corpus of text that's biased in a particular direction then it can only respond in that way. In this perspective it's imitating a human response.
