Hi Alissa,
This can vary and it really depends on the kind of things you are translating. Sometimes, for very specialised work you may be required to have a law degree, or if you're translating a medical document you may be required to have some sort of medical qualification. But in general if you've been working in this field for a number of years then you build up experience and the qualification becomes less important. So generally no, you do not need to have a law degree.
