Getting started with medical translation?

If I'm a translator but I have no experience in the medical area, how do I get started?

As long as someone passes the test, or joins the internship program with our inhouse team, then as long as you establish that connection and join us as a translator and choose to specialise in Life Science, Automotive, Marketing, anything, then there will be opportunities to work with those teams specifically. This is a good place to start as you'll be taking on translation work and will receive good feedback, not only on changes made to your translations but also written feedback, verbal feedback on what needs to be improved on your translations as well as recommendations for websites that can help with research while you are building your experience. Then if you are an intern or an in-house member, you will have access to the MyLX training repository which holds trainings for new starters in Life Sciences, Legal, other verticals such as Gaming. So you will have several opportunities for improving yourself in specific verticals whether you are an internal or external resource. The key is making that first connection so we can start collaborating. 
 You can also refer to the research slides shared in this session "Spotlight on the medical and pharmaceutical vertical" as these include links that will help you get a better feel for what the sub-verticals are about and will help formulate your ideas around what you want to specialise in. Some of them maybe less interesting or too advanced to start with, but these sites will give you a good idea on the terminology used, the requirements for working as a translator. It's a good starting point for Life Sciences.
