Maintaining translation memories when following financial regulations?

Irene Peris Martínez asked:

Hi Tamara, Sophie, thank you for the presentation, it sounds interesting!

As you both mentioned, the wording is usually already translated and there is an official terminology used in regulations to be followed.  I was wondering how do you make sure the correct wording is used and constantly updated in the TMs. Is alignment used here? In that case, could you please give us some insight about it? How it's done and how often updates may be needed

  • We are a very big team, we are three managers but we work with experts in the market as well who keep us updated on the market and any new regulations so we are aware. We work with financial clients, so when we start receiving a new document we are already aware of it and the corresponding regulations... usually by the European Union... so we take the reference material in PDF or Word format and we make sure that it's aligned. Usually the source language is English or French in my team, so we take the source and the target languages which would be all the languages related to the European Union, and we align them. We make sure that it's aligned sentence by sentence, and we follow this wording for all the translations for all of our clients. How often... it depends on the regulations. Sometimes there are updates, so we take the most updated regulation and ensure it's always updated in the translation memory.
