Why Trados?

As the translation industry’s leader, Studio is the ‘de facto’ translation software in every part of the translation eco-system from corporations, governments and trade bodies to translation agencies and freelancers in all types of localisation role. If you think you might want to work in translation, knowing how to use our software will be your passport to career success and happiness. Scroll to the bottom of this page to read what some of our students have to say.

Why learn this now?
As you progress through your linguistics course you will have many opportunities to translate texts that you have taken much time and care over. Imagine being able to store those translations, use them again and even improve on them if the need arises. Trados Studio allows you to do just that. You will be able to build a translation memory (TM ) that enables you to recall past translations and re-use them, meaning you never lose any of your valuable work and you will remain consistent with previous translations, particularly important when you are working on a commercial translation project with a client’s brand.

What is Trados Studio?
Trados Studio is a computer-assisted translation (CAT) software application that helps you to improve your translation efficiency. It offers a number of core components to help you increase your productivity, maintain consistency and improve your quality – these components include translation memories, neural machine translation and termbases to manage terminology. The core component within Studio that stores your translations is called the translation memory (TM). During your studies you will learn that a TM is a valuable asset for a translator that ensures that you never have to translate the same content twice. Trados Studio gives you the flexibility to create as many TMs as you wish, for instance, to use with specific languages, industries or future clients. You may even be able to work on building your first translation memory which you can take with you from student to translation professional.
