Frozen, bugged-ridden error messages

I am a college student working on my school Microsoft Remote Desk. Trados has been super sluggish lately, and I cannot change or repair it, among most of other

troubleshooting options, because I do not have the privileges to do so. I deleted temporary files, created TMs and projects over and over, restarted the program and the

computer countless time. I still cannot pass all sorts of error messages every time I try to open the Editor view or click of other functions whose result is to freeze. What else

can I do aside from informing my teacher that I am stuck with the assignments?

Why are you working with remote desktop?  You can easily work directly on your own computer and link to the Trados Team instance your University has been provided with.  You could even work entirely in the cloud if you are on a MAC.

Unless of course you have not been given access to the cloud for some reason?  Your University does have Trados Team so there are no reasons why you should be restricted to Trados Studio via RDT.

Trados has been super sluggish lately, and I cannot change or repair it, among most of other

troubleshooting options, because I do not have the privileges to do so.

This is your first problem.  We can't help you with that.  You need to speak to your lecturer who provides you with the access if you're only working with remote desktop.

I still cannot pass all sorts of error messages every time I try to open the Editor view or click of other functions whose result is to freeze.

If you provided the error messages it would help.  Nobody can assist you if you don't provide enough details of what you're seeing.  I don't know if your problem is related to working over RDT which could be the source of the problem, or something else that maybe we can help with.

    What else

can I do aside from informing my teacher that I am stuck with the assignments?

I think you should start there anyway.

  • Thanks, Paul, for your tips! Teacher knows and no college technical support of any sort available to me. Teacher tried to help last time months ago and could not. In fact, the errors where exactly the same as now. Although I have a Mac, I am required to work on Microsoft Remote Desk where Trados lives. 100% restricted access as to reinstalling or repairing Trados or its memories. Pardon my ignorance, but I barely know how to operate the program on MRD, let alone a Trados Team cloud.

    Repeated errors:

    1) Unexpected exception when initializing view part Fragment Matches.

    2) Cannot access site for type Sdl.Translation.Editor.Preview.InternalPreview.Internal PreviewPart before the view part has been initialized.

    3) Failed to deactivate view Editor.

    4) TM disabled. Repair it in TM Repair; The requested service is not available.Sdl.TranslationStudio.Api.ProjectManagment.IFiles view service.

    5) Key not found "e1965dc-1745-4a04-8297-ec7a4ff8819". Parameter name: key.

I would appreciate any assistance with the issue.

I'm afraid you will need access to try and resolve these errors.

It's quite disappointing to see you struggling like this when you have a solution in the University that could allow you to work on any device.  Can you tell me if you are using Trados Studio 2024 or some older version tied to an old way of working?

  • Hey, Paul:

This is Trados 2022, which I used in 2024. Before anything, I would like to discard any issue I may have caused, although I do not recall tampering by mistake. I opened the program twice a few times simultaneously, but this did not cause any issues immediately. However,  I was told by the faculty tech support that I was the only student who had problems with Trados this year. Since the problem was not solved by my troubleshooting this last Spring,  I requested them to perform a manufacturer resetting, which they did in April this year precisely for the same problem.

This technical department only assists the university's faculty, NOT students, so I hope they will reset the platform as a second-time-around courtesy. Mind you, Paul, even if I hire a school techie, the problem would not be solved. Paid services at campus are only for operating system issues, not for every specific program for each of the majors and minors.

Suppose the school is afraid of students downloading unauthorized versions of anything, including Trados. In that case, there has to be a way to filter harmful programs without affecting the student's ability to troubleshoot RWS programs properly. I am very annoyed, and you bet I will file a grievance about this nonsense policy.

Thanks for trying to help me.

ok - that would explain a few things.  I'll contact your University and see if we can help because they have been provided with Trados Studio 2024 and Trados Team.  This would allow a few things:

    1. you can work entirely in a browser and not install Trados Studio at all.  Can make things a lot simpler.
    2. you can download and install Trados Studio on any computer you like and licence it from Trados Team.  This puts everything in your own control.

If you're still using Trados Studio 2022 then I think this is most likely because your admins have not understood, or not got around to making use of the latest versions of the software.  We provided Trados Team from Trados Studio 2022 onwards for Universities to be able to manage their courses more efficiently and also so they always had access to the latest software we provide.  It's free, so the only barrier to using it is the University itself.

  • You are right, Paul There is nothing else I can do unless the school does. I emailed the department director and the teachers about taking action on issues of this sort and just forwarded your email to them. Let´s see how the situation plays out.

However, I tried to download a 30-day trial period with two different email accounts in hopes of finishing my homework, but,

although I downloaded it successfully on my Mac, the trial did not open (You cannot open this application). I wonder if this happened because I downloaded the program on the Remote Desk environment, thinking naively I would open it where I have all my files and folders saved...

Thanks so much for your time and dedication. Happy Holidays!
