You need to configure IIS to expose Groupshare over HTTPS. For this, first you need a valid certificate.
After Groupshare is available over HTTPS you can use the Rest API over HTTPS too. Basically this is what the Web UI also does, if you connect to it and open the browser's developer tools you can watch the requests.
