One of our joint customers has asked how to automatically or manually create packages for external providers, similar to how they do in WorldServer. We haven’t found any way to generate packages using the public API.
Do you have any alternatives to suggest such as generating XLIFF files or another method to support this workflow?
This is a high-priority issue for tis customer, so a quick response would be greatly appreciated.

For this customer, the external providers will not be using Trados Cloud. Instead, they prefer to receive packages or XLIFF files as the source for translation. Once the translation is completed, the providers will return the packages or XLIFF files via the FlowFit provider portal.
I’m wondering which public Trados API endpoints would be relevant for supporting this use case.
Hi Jean-Francois Mur , the Public API allows you to download and update completed target files in the native or BCM formats. Currently, it doesn’t support generating translation packages or extracting source XLIFF files directly for external providers

A possible workaround could be to use these endpoints to download the BCM (+ native or SDLXLIFF) files and share them manually with your external providers via the FlowFit portal. If you need help converting BCM to SDLXLIFF and visa versa, then you can find a converter here: https://github.com/RWS/Sdl-Community/tree/master/Code%20samples/BCMToBilingualConverter; you would need to test this fully to confirm it works as expected for your requirements.

The package creation functionality is already available in the Trados private API. Would it be possible to request that this feature be made available in the public API?
In my opinion, this would be the most effective way to send packages to external providers and respond to client requests efficiently.

Hi Jean-Francois Mur , just speaking with the team this morning and confirmed that this feature to manage the package via the public API is planned, but not for the near future.
Taking a closer look at the Trados Cloud API this morning and see that exporting files in the SDLXLIFF format directly is also currently supported (Export Target File Version). This means you won’t need an additional converter, as I previously suggested.

Generates an asynchronous export operation. Use the Get Target File Version Export endpoint to poll until the export is completed. Used only for BCM file versions.
This operation triggers a conversion of the BCM target file version in a native or SDLXLIFF format, based on the value of the format query parameter used.
