SDL Studio Integration API

Dear SDL OpenExchange Developers,

I recently received an e-mail about the release of the new Studio Integration API  The short description of this API had two bullets:

- Extend or customize the user interface for Studio 2014 applications.
- Create custom functionalities for the SDL Trados Studio application

The first bullet makes sense to me, but what doese the second one actually mean? Could you provide me with a few examples of what can done with this API. I would like to integrate stand-alone tools that we have developed into the translation process. Can I develop custom batch tasks or modify exisiting batch tasks with this API?

I'm not a fully-fledged developer myself and I don't think looking at the API itself would really help me. But I would like to know what can be done with the API to see if it might solve my needs.

Thanks for any help.

Robert

  • Hi Robert,

Some of the use cases for the new Integration API go beyond modifying the user interface, for instance modifying projects after creation behind the scenes. Also by plugging into the user interface you can create new views, view parts etc., which then ultimately leads to "custom functionalities" referred to in the second bullet point.

Re. modifying/adding custom batch tasks, this moved out of scope for the initial release of the integration API. It's still on the radar though for being added soon, if all goes well in the next service pack.

More information will follow soon; we are currently fine-tuning Studio 2014 with a view to a near-term cumulative update which will then also introduce some new possibilities as well as enhanced documentation. More info on that soon.

    Thanks

    Daniel
