Our users would like to be able to highlight some portions of the text being translated in Studio 2014 with different colours (up to 4). In Studio, there is the possibility to apply an Highlight Color through the QuickInsert, but only one colour (yellow) is available.
Does the new SDK of Studio 2014 provide a way of implementing the requested function? If so, which API would be needed (I suppose the Integration API 1.0, but not sure)?

Thanks for your query. This is not possible at this point; the integration API does not offer the facility; also the file types don't at this point. Can you describe the use case a bit more for our understanding?

The use case is as follows: several of our in-house translators (using Translator's Workbench and Word as an editor) use a sort of colour code.
By highlighting a portion of text with a specific colour, they indicate the action to be performed.
A convention is e.g. the following:
yellow = term to be double-checked later (on one's own)
green = term to be checked with the authors
blue = term to be clarified with colleagues / field experts
This is effective because no additional comment is necessary. Some users use it extensively and will miss it after the upgrade to Studio.
Do you think that it will be possible to code this feature in the near future (at least for DOCX format)?

I've created a tool for highlighting text in Trados Studio 2014.
It doesn't work in real-time, but if you are interested, check the following webpage.

Note that this tool works directly on sdlxliff files (it doesn't use the API).
The tool only makes a few replacements in the target sdlxliff files, so it should work fine, but obviously I can't be held liable if it corrupts your files.

We have tested the tool a bit and - with the constraints you pointed out - it indeed implements what some of our users require.
Just two questions:
- Are colours other than green and cyan implemented?
- Customised colours are not exported to the final file when you generate the target translation. Is it by design or is it a consequence of the limitations of the file type?

I added two more highlight colors. You can use them by adding the following QuickInserts.
Magenta
Start Text: [#HCM#]
End Text: [#/HCM#]
Red
Start Text: [#HCR#]
End Text: [#/HCR#]
If you need other colors, tell me which ones you need, and I can add them for you.

It's by design.
I tweaked the tool so that the custom highlight colors are now exported to the target translation.

I confirm that the new colours magenta and red work fine and all colours are now exported.
More feedback (e.g. concerning the colours) might come in the future once we gain more experience.
The tool is handy and useful and I hope it is known to everybody with user requirements similar to ours.
