Our organization uses WorldServer and Trados Studio 2014 together and we have found various desires to be able to set settings for WorldServer projects such as previews, or perform custom actions on additional files sent down as project attributes.
It looks like the projectscontroller class may do the trick but it doesn't seem suited to handle cases where Trados is opened with a project already selected.
Any help/info would be appreciated.

You can use Studio Integration API although it doesn't exposed an event for project creation but you can use EditorController to find when a document/file was opened. Integration API provides ways for a developer to hook on the Projects, Files and Editor Studio views by providing access to the related controllers ProjectsController, FilesController and EditorController.
Please be aware that the documentation is still working in progress and you might not find enough information but i suggest to look at this samples.
