Personally I haven't had a problem with backwards compatibility (2015 build with 2014)

In case you are interested, it is possible to target multiple versions of Trados Studio using a single project in Visual Studio (assuming that you want to use the same code for each version). Here is a link to my blog where I explain how I do it:
