Translation Results Text Formatting Tags

Hi All,

I've searched existing threads for this but can't find a definitive answer. I'm a newbie to Trados and I'm wondering if someone who's knowledgeable about the API can help me out by teliing me if it's capable of doing what I need it to.

I understand that text in the Translation results window can be marked up with tags that signify formatting attributes. These tags can be blue, purple or underlined I think, like in the screenshot below:

I need to programmatically access the Translation Results, which I plan to do my writing and extending my own File Based Translation Provider. If I do that, will the formatting tags - like the ones in blue above - be available to me along with the text?

Thanks for your help!

  • Hi Anthony, I think this is the sdlxliff you are looking up to get the TM results in the first place. The TM just holds placeholders to help improve leverage, the actual specifics relating to what kind of tag it is are in the sdlxliff as this represents the file.

  • Hi Paul,

I'm a little confused. In the case of the sample files that i'm using I found sdlxliff files in the folder: C:\Users\Dom\Documents\Studio 2015\Projects\Samples\SampleProject\en-US.

I had thought that these sdlxliff files contained data from the Editor window only :

But not from the Translation Results window :

I thought that the only way to programmatically access the contents of the Translation Results window is through the API. I've probably misunderstood, though.

Is there an sdlxliff file that represents the Translation Results window?

  • Hi Anthony,

This is correct. But I think if you wish to know what content is actually in the tags in the TM results window then you need to access this from the sdlxliff. This is because the TM contains a placeholder with no detail. The TU is then updated based on the content of the sdlxliff.

Perhaps it'll be better if answers this in case I am confusing the matter.

    Regards

    Paul

  • There is no sdlxliff for the translation results but Studio looks into the source segment formatting from the sdlxliff and applies that to the translation results too. This is not happening in concordance search window.
