Notification Message opens a blank page in IE upon Project Creation using SDL API

Question

Hello, 
 
 Our SDL API generates a message when a project is automatically created. When clicking on the project link on the message, a blank page is opening in IE and only then the project opens. 
 Is there a way NOT to prompt IE to open when project is opened from the message link?

This an IE behavior and can't be controlled from SDL applications. An option would be to use Chrome or Firefox as default browsers.
