Idea Delivered

There are multiple options on how to copy tags from source.

Allow copy and paste of tags in Online Editor from source to target segment

So far, it is not possible to copy and paste text with tags from source to target segments in Online Editor as it is possible in Trados Studio. It would improve a translators work a lot if that feature would be available. So far it is only possible to copy the full content of the source to the target. But a lot of times the translators just need parts from a segment including the tags. And the easiest way is to copy and paste from the source and replace the text rather than writing the text and then tag the text.

  • While I agree to have Trados specific shortcuts and smart actions is great, the reality is that reviewers may be untrained people in the target region that do not know the functionality at all. Everyone knows copy&paste however as it is valid across applications and even operating systems. I would consider having this as useful likewise for users that are new to the online editor.

  • I think this idea is not delivered. While there are some ways to have tags created in the target side of the Online Editor, it is still lacking a copy and paste action for the tagging. This also impacts when we have to validate a translation externally from TE. When we try to copy a segment that includes tags, the tags are lost upon copy and paste which makes us have to manually type them. This can be cumbersome for some segments that have a lot of tags.

  • Another way to copy tags from source is simply CTRL+click on the tag you want to copy.

  • I understand that the Smart Actions functionality exists and there are certain pros to doing it that way but we have seen feedback from our users where it does not seem to load correctly sometimes and overall it's still a lot of clicking when some find copy/paste easier. From my own experience, I would say that the keyboard layout also plays a small role in how efficient this is to do as well. Pressing CTRL+C and CTRL+V with my left hand and clicking with my right hand is much easier and natural to me than moving my left hand across the keyboard to press CTRL+, and clicking with my right.

Ideally, it would be nice if we could have both options available like in Trados Studio. I'm curious to know if this is on a development roadmap as this seems to be a popular upvoted community idea!

  • ctrl + comma does work. Thanks! I still would prefer copy/paste.
